I re-started running last week. I already have a base fitness from previous running earlier this year, so I tried W5R1 - but found it too tough.
This week I started W4 and find it just right.
My advice is to start where you think would be manageable for you, but not too advanced as you still have to get your muscles used to it gradually. Then tweak as you think best after your first run.

I also lost motivation over the lousy summer - only ran while on holiday. Got a treadmill, which was delivered last weekend. Started with 5/1 and found it easy. Did 5/2 the next day - no problem. Monday was 5/3 (the first long run of the programme) and managed by keeping to 5mph. I've stuck to 5/3, running every morning and gradually speeding up.
I think the main problem is that, once we reach our goal, we have nothing to focus on. So I've entered a 5k that takes place in 3 weeks time. With that as my target, and the treadmill keeping me comfy indoors, I'm (kind of) enjoying running again & looking forward to doing the C25k+ in the run up to Christmas.
The good thing is that you (and I) have faced up to our relapse and want to get back on the straight & narrow. Good luck.
