I hate hills!

Week 2 run 1. ugh That felt reallly difficult and hard work. I wish I could run somewhere without millions of hills, it makes it 10 times harder and it just zaps away my motivation and sense of achievement because if I was running along flat ground, I would be able to do it better than I am.

I did complete the run though. just keep swimming

Urgh, hills are a killer. I'm in a similar location where whatever direction I run in, I hit a hill within 5 minutes :(

The way I see it though, as hard as a hill is, the more I run up them, the stronger my legs will get. The stronger my legs are means the farther / faster I can go on flat routes.

Stick with it :)

i have much the same but i cheat a bit by walking to where i know the 5 minute warm up walk will take in the 1st hill else i'd be walking flat and running up hill for the 1st run! Just means my warm up is a 7 minute one

Where I live there isn't even anyway I can walk to a less hilly place unless I literally just run up and down a 0.3 mile road! I know it will be better for me in the long term, but it's so disheartening!

Same here, I live in a beautiful place but the hills are a nightmare for a novice runner. I just avoid them whenever possible. (My post-graduation plan includes doing some hills, I can't avoid them forever!) I do what 7ermintrude does, I don't particularly like running DOWN hills either, kills the legs and knees, so I generally walk much longer than 5 minutes at the beginning and end of a run.

I have to say the treadmill makes a welcome break from flippin' hills, as I discovered last week.

hmm I wonder how I'd find a treadmill, haven't got one unfortunately and no money for the gym. There just isn't any flat stretch of land anywhere near me. The only thing I could do would be to get the bus to somewhere flat and bus back but I don't fancy that!

Yeah, my gym membership ends (by financial necessity!) in October so I shall be treadmilling away till then, making up for all the months I don't go to the gym at all. It's not easy in these hilly places, the longest reasonably OK stretch I could find was 2.2 miles and even that involved some doubling back and running round car parks, lol.
