Since i started the longer runs 20, 25, and 28 mins I am getting large blisters in the arch of my foot, I wondered if any one else has experienced this and if so how did you stop it occuring. I have brought proper running trainners which are confortable any suggestions would be greatfully recieved.

I suffered the exact same problem, blisters on the arch of my foot. Firstly I checked my running shoes as I'd worn them for ages with no problems, it turned out they needed replacing. Then I invested in some Nike dri-fit socks (Sports Direct for about £5) which draw away the sweat and stop any rubbing. I bought some Compeed too - it's about £5 for five plasters but they are brilliant and create a second skin until the blister has healed. I've been recommended to use surgical spirit on my feet too, to harden them up and stop future blisters.

Hope this helps - I know how annoying blisters can be :(

You can also get double-skin socks, the idea being that any friction occurs between the two layers rather than between your skin and the sock. It seems to work for me. Mine are RunBreeze and I got them from Amazon but there are various other makes.

The other thing I was advised is to have running shoes in half a size bigger than your usual shoe size because your feet will be prone to expand while running and this will make them more likely to rub and cause blisters if your shoes are too snug a fit.

Once the blisters have healed, try applying a couple of layers of micropore tape to your feet and a smearing of petroleum jelly over that. I had the same problem a few years ago when I switched to Asic GT shoes. Even double layer socks didn't help. Glad to say that the problem wasn't permanent though and the shoes subsequently carried me around many runs without problem.

I was also going to suggest running socks. these were suggested to me when I bought my first pair of trainers (although one size bigger would have been a better suggestion for me as I lost 2 toenails with trainers my normal size).

the socks I have are karrimor ankle socks & are £4 for 2 pairs from sports direct. they are quite padded in places & I can say that I have never had a blister from running.

in the meantime, those "happy feet" silicone type insoles may help to reduce the pain from the blister & please dont pop it. it should dispurse back into the skin in a few days if you can leave it alone.

Try sending JR21 a message explaining what is happening, there might still be a problem with the site.

hi, I had the same problem with blisters once I got to weeks 7 & 8. Running socks really helped, I got a pack of two for about £5 in one of the cheaper sports shops & haven't had blisters since. good luck!
