I use the one at the gym for all sorts of things - core strength exercises (plank etc); balance training; stretches and massage. I was a bit sceptical before I'd tried one but they are very good and very versatile. Give it a go if you get a chance.

You can do all the usual post-run stretches using the plate and I think it makes it more effective. An old school friend who is a sports physio told me to always stretch for twice as long as I think I need to. On the other hand, Jeff Galloway is quite cautious about post-run stretches as there is a danger of over stretching. I think gentle stretches repeated a few times is probably the best course. Then treat yourself to the massage bit :-)
