Treadmill vs. Outside?

I have had to run the last 3 runs inside on a treadmill because of really hot weather. What are thoughts or suggestions for doing the program this way instead of outside?

You can do the programme any way you like as far as I understand. I much prefer running outside, you can go early morning or evening time to escape the heat (not that there has been any, where I live!)

If the treadmill suits you that's ok, it's still the same distance, just a different way. Good luck!

I use a gym treadmill because I think it's kinder on my joints than outside, although I have run in the park when the ground is soft after rain (not a problem this year!) I'm not sure that a domestic treadmill where you have to hold on is the best thing but a gym machine is different. (holding on will affect your style and you might then find it difficult to run outside). There are those who say a treadmill is easier, but I don't think it is- it's just different. Go for wahtever suits you.and enjoy your running :)

I started off on a treadmill and I do think it is easier in the early weeks (unless you set it on a hilly program or similar!). Once you get to the longer runs, though, I found it became mind-numbingly boring and I would much rather be outside, whatever the weather. I still think it is a useful alternative though, especially if you want to do interval training or similar.

Really, the main thing is that you are persevering with the program in the way that best suits you - keep it up !

And, as happierswimming says - ENJOY it !

I did all of c25k on a treadmill & then tried to move outside but found that I ran too fast & just couldnt do it. if you are able to do both then this is what I would recommend. 2 of my girls aged 12 & 13 at the time did c25k. they did 2 runs on the treadmill & 1 outside, which I joined them for. when week 5 came & there were 3 different runs we did all of them outside & they repeated a couple of the runs on the treadmill for confidence. they now prefer to get outside & run, as do I & only use the treadmill now as a last resort.

good luck with the rest of the plan & if you wait until later to venture outside, then take it slow & steady. :)
