We drove to Kielder while on holiday earlier this year. I was on week 7 of the C25k program at the time. It is a truly beautiful place and I remarked that I would like to run there one day. I didn't realise at the time just how BIG it is. Later, I discovered there is a Kielder marathon.......there's also a 10k but I really want to run (jog, huff and puff) around ALL of the big, beautiful lake !
A great goal to aim for (although you will never see my name & marathon in the same sentence). I am awed by everyone that wants to run a half / whole marathon.
I've found a few, I'll probably adapt one to fit around running club, my yoga class etc I don't want to be training at the expense of other things I want to do - motorcycling, going to the gym with my BH etc, so I'm hoping that if I start planning now, I might not need to be quite so intense.
Go for it, I must agree kielder is just stunning, I stayed in some log cabins a few years ago by the side of the lake. The water was low the and you could see the church spire in the centre of the lake that is still there from when they flooded the valley. Remarkable place
That I a great dream to run around there. Do it!!!
Went to Keilder Forrest for the first time at Easter this year to cycle around the lake - I'd not gone that far in one outing up until then. Fantastic day - did it on my own and it really was an experience - far side of the lake very remote just prayed I didn't get a pucture! Lovely area so vast - those red squirrels! Would really recommend it if you are up that way. Petrol now available in the village - make sure though you have a full tank before entering the forrest. Best kept secret, if you are into stargazing best place in England to observe to stars. Wasn't into running then but now a great place for me for both!
