Exercises for "runner's knee"


I'm following the RICE mantra to deal with a bad knee (Chondromalacia) and finding that the ice pack really helps.

Has anyone got any tips for exercises for both keeping active and to strengthen the knee?

Swimming has been recommended, but fitting that into the day eats a lot of time, is there anything else that you have found useful?

Poor you - how frustrating. There are some exercises in this month's Runners World for strengthening knees. Running Well by Sam Murphy and Sarah Connors is a great book and suggests some exercises to help that you can easily do at home.
