How does everyone approach the weekends? My first week has been run 1 on Monday, run 2 on Wednesday, run 3 on Friday (tomorrow). Should I rest the whole weekend to keep my M, W, F schedule, or start week 2 on Sunday?

It's entirely up to you. Some people run every other day and others 3 times a week which means that there is on 2 day rest period...that's what I did whilst I was on the programme and still tend to have a 2 day rest period between some runs now. It's really finding out what works for you, both your body & life! No right or wrong :)

I run the same days as you and take weekends off. Having two days' break hasn't made any difference to my ability to complete Monday's run, so don't worry. Make the programme fit your life or you might not keeep it up :)

Thanks for the confirmations, AliB1 and happierswimming. I thought it would be ok, but that little nagging voice in the back of my head made me doubt myself. I'll take the weekend off and keep to the M, W, F runs.

I always took the weekend off as my little reward to myself.

These days it is sometimes the only days that I can run :-)

I'm on week three now, and have tried to do the M,W,F thing, but having the two days at the weekend means that if I have to miss one run, I can go Saturday morning, or if, after my Friday run, I'm feeling very energetic, I can get a day ahead of myself and go on Sunday instead. It allows me the flexibility, since my schedule is ever-changing at the moment!

I don't have a set work schedule, so I run when I can. I've never been a weekend person because I normally work them, but as long as it suits your lifestyle then go with what you find managable and enjoyable.

I do the same.. run M, W and F... then if I have an issue with a run I have given it an extra day of rest and then altered by doing moving it ahead... for instance, I ran on a Mon... found it hard and then gave two day rest and then did Thurs and Sat... but still went back on schedule on the following Monday... I also like to do some easier walking on the weeknds...

I always used to start the new week on a Friday; and that way if it was tough, I had the whole weekend to recover. It wasn't until I graduated and started doing much longer runs that I switched one run to weekends.

I used to have a schedule, every Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday giving me Friday and Saturday as rest days. It worked for a couple of weeks but I found that by Saturday morning, I was getting tetchy and really looking forward to the run.

After week two, I switched to running every other day. It's meant that I've done the 9wk plan in 8 weeks but it also goes to show that the plan isn't overly strict. There had been times I'd take a days rest, some times I'd take 3 days rest - but just follow what your body tells you, not what the plan says.

because of work I found it easiest to run fri, sun, weds starting the week on the weds, monday night I have to go out, tuesday was housework, this worked for me, as fridays and sundays I had more free time and flexibility for fitting in the runs, my schedule was a bit lop-sided but worked because they were my best days for being able to do it.
