Finally, and it's taken over a year....

I ran 5k in 30 minutes!

It was really hard work because it was 3 pm and hot and humid, but I'm trying to fit in runs with working full time and that was the only time available today.

I was determined to do it.

I did it :D

I have to say that I didn't enjoy any of it, but it was something that just needed to be done and I have felt more capable these last few weeks.

Next goal: to do the 5k park run on Saturday: it will be the first time to run with other people. Am I scared? Just a little bit!

Wow! That's fantastic! Really impressed...have been trying all sorts of didderent tactics to try and get my pace up a bit, but can't get below 33 minutes.

Know it's pathetic and maybe a little obsessive, but really really want to do 5k in 30 minutes!

Sure you understand......

So, come on, what's your secret? :)

not sure what's pathetic about it but if you want sympathy for obsessiveness you are in exactly the right place XD

Thanks Gypesydepp. The secret is just a change in goals; before I was after distance and ran slowly. Recently I just had a niggling feeling to get this under my belt. I have also found doing a 10k training plan has improved my stamina and strength.

That should have said different not didderent!

Why is it that when a wife and mother sits at a computer everyone thinks its ok to keep asking me things!

Whooooppppp & big cheer. Well done Theresa. So I've got 7 months to know 7 and half minutes of my time! It's good to know what we do keep on getting better the more we do. I would love to do a PB on Saturday at the parkrun even if just by a few seconds...we'll see. I know our park run has pacers on the first Saturday of the month...wonder if they'll have one for 36 mins???? Don't think I'll be able to keep up with 35 mins (a leap to far at the mo).

You'll be fine on Saturday, will be routing for you!

Thanks Ali. Hopefully it won't be too hot for us and you'll achieve your PB. Just getting there and doing it will be challenging enough for me!

Well done, and in the heat too. Huge achievement. If you can run at that pace you will be fine to run with others. I hope you enjoy it. I always feel better when other runners are coming towards me. Maybe I am a tad competitive!

It will be interesting to see whether I feel competitive or not on Saturday. Running just brings out new things in us !

good work Ma'am, nice milestone.

There is more to come I bet you! Easy peasy :-)

Do you think? Well, we'll see, but I'd like to think so.

I do think! Sub 30 on your own in the heat.....it'll be cooler at the weekend and you'll have someone to peg yourself against. Just be Joe Cool and don't crash off like Usain!

I found my 5k time improved a lot once I was doing regular 10k runs, and a bit more after extending the distance again.

Henrietta, that's really encouraging. I don't think it's helped that I've left it so long to do one, but I'm up for challenges at the moment it seems!

Wow brilliant, well done you. I still haven't managed 5km, to do it in 30 minutes is a dream for me at the moment, but I WILL get there too.

Well done ! I was fit for nothing at that time today - you didn't make it easy for yourself and that just makes it even more of an achievement. Hurrah for you !!!

Brillant - go for it on Saturday. Have you been using the scary pilot with the male Laura to speed up? Downloaded it because I stumbled upon the link the other day and listened to the first five minutes - scared the pants off me!

Well done! You will enjoy your parkrun.

Getting to 30 mins is my aim at the moment and am hopeful that the Laura podcasts will be out soon so that I can concentrate on it.

Meanwhile still have to psyche myself up to get through the 5k. Can't say I enjoy it but hopefully I will as it gets easier.

Good luck, looking forward to hearing how you got on.

Well done you!! That's my next goal and I need to shave 6 mins off my first (and only so far) 5k to reach it. Good luck for Saturday - I will be interested to hear how you get on as there is a Park Run very close to me. :)
