Near the end of my c25k journey i have began to get a twinge now and then in my right knee. It put me out of action for almost a week. I have wanted to get a 'gait' analysis done but have put it off.
New Balance are a localish firm (their factory is nearby) and were supposed to be taking part in a health initiative at my local authority last week. They pulled out for some reason or other.
Anyway, i hunted around to see who else locally offered the service and DW fitness have an analyser in most of their sport stores.
Went there today. Quite amazing really. Got a complete view of my running style. Apparently my running style is good, i dont land on the ball of my heels which is a common problem. But, i do have quite a reasonable over pronation. We tried a few different shoes.
He was able to show a window videoing my running in the three different pairs. He then used the programme to draw a line from where my ankle was angled and where it should be. Apparently you get the pain on the opposite side of where the angle is out. In my case the angle of my ankle to the rest of my leg showed a vertical line shifting up all the way to the top of the other leg when in reality it should be placed in line with my knee. This means my shoes need to give me a lot of support.
The asics 1170 showed the best improvement on the video, and they felt very comfortable and firm.
