Got my gait analysis done didn’t I!

Thanks to the nice chap at the local ‘Up & Running’ shop I’ve got some new kicks!

Couldn’t wait to try them out so took them for a little 3k test.... took 39 seconds off my km split pace!

Hurrah for new trainers that fit! What a difference it makes! 😎

Fantastic! (And how good does it feel to say a 'little 3k test' compared to a few months ago?!) I hope they bring you a lot of running comfort and joy :)

I'm hoping to go in to get the same done soon. I love the trainers I've got but I have to accept that they're just a bit too small for running (they seem to be fine when walking). I'm fed up with numbing feet towards the end of a run, and if I'm buying more I will do it properly and get some advice at the same time. Currently though I'm still on the IC - I took a week off to allow my hip to heal a bit, but then 2 x 30 min runs following that and it was as bad as before. I'm trying to be a bit more patient this time (plus I'm wondering whether the shoe fitting will help if it's related to that), even if it means having to return to shorter runs for the time being. Doesn't mean I like it though, I feel like I'm out of the flow of it...

Oh no - sorry to hear your on the IC! You must take enough time to recover and when you do decide to get back to it, do shorter gentle runs and see how it feels. Easier said than done now we’ve found this new thing we like!

Yes to be honest it does feel really good to be able to say a ‘little 3K’ - but it shows that the plan has worked and I’m able to do so...which I’m thrilled about!

I have been running in trainers that felt fine to walk around in but when I got to 25-30mins of a run I got a dead leg that started in my foot, so I felt that I wouldn’t really be able to continue my running journey like that, I didn’t know how much our feet swell or splay out when running so I didn’t realise that was my issue.

Anyway, had no issues at all on my run today and it felt like a completely different experience.

I would highly recommend getting some advice and a gait analysis done, the difference for me has been unbelievable even in just one run.

All I’ve ever wanted was to be able to run without a care in the world with no aches and pains and the sun on my back... today I did it! 😎

The result of your gait analysis sounds perfect! My numbness in my feet sounds v similar to yours so I'm sure some better fitting shoes will make the world of difference. Your run today sounds great... fingers crossed for some more sunshine!

We’ve probably got the same issue with numb feet (although it was only ever on one leg where I had the problem which is even more odd) ... mine starts in the arch and within 2 minutes my whole foot and up to mid calf was numb... felt like I was running on a stump... which is dangerous! So yeah get yourself a gait analysis and hopefully it might help you a bit too. Let me know how it goes.

Devon _straggler , So sorry to hear of your troubles - hope the resting will sort it out. Keep your chin up, and get those new trainers 🤞🤗

Thank you. It is frustrating, I feel like I'm losing momentum at a time I could really do with consolidating as those 30 min runs in W9 and the couple of consolidation runs I've done are still really hard work. But I'll get there! Are your runs going ok?

in reply to Devon_straggler

Sympathies for your frustration. 🤗 Yes thank you. Had my week off last week for babysitting, but back at it now. I decided to work my way through all the runs in NRC, starting with the shortest so not pushing myself too far yet, but that will come. 😁. So far so good, I feel really strong . 👏

Devon_straggler profile image
Devon_stragglerGraduate in reply to

Excellent - that sounds perfect :) No need to push yourself too hard, the point is to enjoy it, and there's plenty of time for longer distances or durations in the future if that's what you want to aim for. Feeling strong sounds like an amazing outcome :)

Thanks Hidden !My shoes & I will be very happy together♥️

Won’t take long for them to look dirty though 🙄 Anyway, I don’t care as long as they fit and are comfortable that’s what matters.

Hope you had a great Easter with the family? x

in reply to SassyF

Yes thank you, but missed not running. Glad to get it out of my system with yesterday's run - felt much better afterwards. It's hard work looking after a 5 year old all day for 5 days!! 🤣

They look great. Curious to know what advice they gave in-store ...

SassyF profile image
SassyFGraduate in reply to John_W

They were very helpful, asked me some questions about what I had done run wise so far, what my goals were for the summer, put me in a pair of soft neutral shoes and got me on the running machine, recorded it and showed me in slow motion afterwards explaining how some people roll in or out at the ankles and how it can put all the joints of the ankle, knee and hip/ back out. I told him about some issues I was having with my numb foot and leg after 30 mins of running and he said that getting the right shoes was important and because I had been previously running in Asics which are known to have a narrower toe box this wouldn’t have helped my feet at all. He said to try a couple of runs in the ones I bought to see if they help with the numb feeling - Brooks do a 90 day guarantee so if I wasn’t happy with them I could take them back - even though they were worn.

He explained the differences in shoes that they sold and the features and benefits of them. I tried on 4 pairs in total but these felt just right. I knew they were the ones as soon as I put them on and my stride has changed a little also as it was also recorded and shown to me.

Great shopping experience!

Sounds like excellent service. Did they anything about sizing compared to your normal days shoes?

SassyF profile image
SassyFGraduate in reply to John_W

Yep, I was advised to go a whole size bigger in Brooks trainers, but that different brands would perhaps be either a half or a full size.Showed me a test by putting my thumb sideways at the toe end of the shoe to make sure it was big enough so when I press down beyond my toe my thumb had space to fit too..I wouldn’t have known they needed to have that much room until I was told.

John_W profile image
John_WGraduateAmbassador in reply to SassyF

Yes, it's quite an eye-opener when you see that for the 1st time. But when you start running regularly, you realise that that space is very much needed and appreciated. Hope your enjoy your new toys!

They recommended Brooks to me after an online gait analysis. Just like you, they just feel right. I don't know I have them on, they are so comfortable, like treading in air. Gait analysis is wonderful. I had to send them various photos of my trainers, and videos of me running, then discuss my particular requirements by telephone, and then suggested which trainers. Very happy with result. Hope this helps, John_w.

I’m going Thursday ! I used to get excited about shopping at mint velvet. Now I’d prefer a newPair of trainers lol. They look fab !!!! Very snazzy

SassyF profile image
SassyFGraduate in reply to Badrun

I know what you mean about Mint Velvet, my sister in law works for them so she’s always sending me photos of new stock! Not helpful for the bank balance.. 😬

After doing the CT5K programme mostly wearing my husbands sports tops because I didn’t want to invest in too much stuff in case it didn’t work out - I now I find myself coordinating my running gear and browsing sports websites what has happened to me?! 😎

I hava the same trainers too after gait analasys and I am very very happy with them and I feel like I am flying in them. I tried new balance too as my father in law said it’s good to have 2 pairs and alternate them but just not the same and I always end up taking za Brooks out for a ride 😂😂😂😂

SassyF profile image
SassyFGraduate in reply to ele123

It certainly feels like a different run wearing the Brooks trainers! I tried some Saucony, NB, and Asics... none of them felt as good as the Brooks, but everyone’s different. To be honest I think any of them would have been fine for me compared with what I was previously running in!

Looking forward to my next run in them and feeling really positive about being able to try further distances once I’ve properly consolidated at this stage. 😃

Great time improvement as well... they must have a lot of boing!! 😁

SassyF profile image
SassyFGraduate in reply to QuadroVEINia

Well my previous pair of Asics that I bought unguided online during lockdown were a whole size smaller, too narrow for me and I had to had to hack at the back of the left heel with a pair of scissors because it gave me blisters (classy huh?). So yes - compared to that situation these have a whole lot of ‘boing’. 🤣

Ahh cheers! I think they’re lovely too. I actually wasn’t bothered what colours, brand or style I ended up with - I just wanted comfort. But it is nice when they are pleasing on the eye too. 😊

Ghosts too ! Is that the same as yours ? I’ve been off all week cos of vaccine sickness. Can’t wait to get back out tomorrow Were yours great to run in ? I’ve been running in racing flats with no support at all apparently 😂 no wonder my calves were sore

mine are Brooks Ghost too!! I love mine too!! not so pretty as yours though, they only had a choice of black or black at the time !! at least they dont show the dirt 😁

SassyF profile image
SassyFGraduate in reply to

I think I’d have probably picked black if they had that as an option- so much easier to keep clean... I’ll just have to be selective about my routes and invest in a darker pair in the autumn....any excuse to buy shoes! 🤩
