Ah, with the best will in the world, these things happen! I got a sore throat and cough a few weeks ago, decided not to mollycoddle myself at first so went out for one run but it wasnt a good idea. Then I read about the "above the neck/below the neck" guidance so gave running a rest for 10 days, wasnt happy about it but we have to give our bodies a chance to recover. Lots of vit c and fluids (hot water, honey and fresh lemon?) and you;ll be back out there in no time.

Oh poor you, hope you feel better soon best to rest up till you feel better. It is disappointing when you have come so far to stop, but life is a marathon not a sprint!

Cheer up you will soon be back on track.

Hope you are better soon, give yourself time to get better as if you run too soon it may take longer for you to get better. The stage you are at with running is not going to diminish if you have to have a weeks rest.

Rest is important ! I'm learning that this week.....

Try to see it as part of your training - you have to be strong enough to resist the temptation to push yourself before you're ready. I think that, even after graduating, most of us still have a lot to learn about listening to our bodies. There's quite a kick to be had out of overcoming mental challenges, making ourselves keep running when our bodies are aching - I think sometimes it is difficult to forgo that sense of achievement in order to give our bodies a well-deserved rest. Pamper yourself for a while and plan your come-back training ! ;-) Have a hot toddy or two.....

get well soon!. :)

I really sympathise with you as I had just completed week 5 and was looking forward to 6 but .... I was approaching the first night of my play and all the stress that went with that (last night) when suddenly on Wednesday evening as if a curse had descended I became totally blocked up. I awoke yesterday with a scratchy throat, a thick head and streaming nose. Not really surprised but really fed up as I was due my run. I decided to be kind to myself and wait until I feel stronger before I move on to the next stage but boy was it difficult. I was so knackered that in the end I let the thought go!

I always dose myself up with loads of a high strength Echinacea as it is fab for boosting you immune system.

Next time I have a play I am going to start it before I am stressed as maybe that will prepare my body and help it cope. When stressed the immune system can't cope and your resistant to bugs etc. diminishes. If you are stressing about the run that will just add to the problems so to sum up ...... just "be kind to yourself and chill" :) You will soon be back on form again and .... I wish you well! :)
