Gait analysis is free at sweatshop so no reason not to do it. It is highly recommended to keep you injury free. Choice of trainer depends on gait results

I think most decent running stores will do a gait analysis for free. It is a very good thing to do because it helps ensure you keep your feet in roughly the right position when you hit the ground, which makes it much less likely you will hurt yourself. Some people naturally roll their ankles/feet in or out (among other things) and the shoes are designed to prevent your specific sins. Ex. If you are a foot-rolling-in type, you want a shoe that blocks that inward motion, but not the outward motion.
Once you have your gait analyzed, your sales person will (hopefully) encourage you to try on a number of shoes of the right "type". Then you can choose the one that feels the best on your feet. If cost is a concern, you can always take note of the "best" shoe make and model you find, and then do some bargain hunting - just make sure you get the same shoe.
