Skipping runs in the last few weeks?

I've just completed wk 6 run 3 after almost three weeks off. I've got a 5k run at the end of the month, and was planning on adding on an extra 10 mins after wk 9 so that I'd be running 5k just in time (currently doing about 3.5k). But, with those weeks off I'm running out of time, so am thinking about skipping a few sessions from weeks 7-9 and then using the last two weeks to add on the extra minutes. I seem to be managing ok with the runs, despite the break, but would like to hear if anyone else has skipped sessions like that?

I did exactly that, for exactly the same reasons as you! I was fine with skipping some sessions and adding minutes, but I have to say that it all felt a bit driven and the joy went out of running for a while for me. But I think that's preferable to not being prepared for the 5k and then killing yourself on the day. Make sure you rest well in between, and allow yourself the luxury of some consolidating runs (ie not increasing distance) after the big day - for me that was what brought me back to that happy endorphin place! Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Thanks jucydee, that's a relief to know! I've been a bit anxious about the 5k, so I think I'll try your way - I'll keep you posted on how it works out!
