Just use your iPhones music player and an app that measures your distance/pace/speed etc. Runtastic or Sportypal should do fine.

Do they give you distance etc as you go? the app I have at the moment that I use for walking doesn't update me over the music

I don't know what sort of phone you've got but the Map My Run app for iPhone tells you your progress (distance/average speed/current speed, etc) at intervals you set using the Voice Feedback setting. It cuts in over iTunes briefly to do this. You just need to have both iTunes and the Map My Run app running at the same time. I don't know if there's a Map My Run app for other smartphones but if there is, I should imagine the functionality will be similar.

Sorry, only just noticed that you did specify you have an iPhone in your question. Good luck with the app. I love it because it both maps where you've been and you can also use it to plan further runs. Must admit I got a shock when the voice feedback first cut in. I'd forgotten I'd set it.

I used my Nike gps yesterday as it was my first 25 min run. When looking at it last night it maps the route you ran and changes colour as your speed changes which I found very interesting. You pay a pound or so for this app map my run which I downloaded yesterday is free, someone who already uses it can tell us if it does the same. Im going to keep my history to compare my next 3 25 min runs

If you have Nike+ on your iPhone (it's available on the App Store if you don't) you can set a timed run, say 30 mins and then choose whatever music you want. The voice will tell you at every 5 minute interval how far you've gone. Or you can set it to tell you every kilometre/mile instead if you prefer.

I used it this morning for my first run after completing the programme and it was great to have my own music but still know how long I'd done :)

Oh brill, I didn't realise the Nike app did a timed run. Will definately use that in the future

I just bought a new iPod nano to replace my geriatric one and it does the same thing-didn't know that when I bought it!. You can set the time, or distance you want to run, and it counts off as you do it. It also tells you at the end if you got a personal best (9min mile for me today!!!!)

When you plug it in to iTunes it then uploads to the nike+ website if you want it to

The best app by far has to be the Nike+ GPS:)
