Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum and I want to thank everyone for creating such a lovely community - I am always reading to find motivation and people to relate to!
I am a first-time runner, and have just completed Week 6 Run 1, which I weirdly found harder than the dreaded W5R3!
A few weeks ago, I went to a running shop to have my gait analysed. It turns out that my right foot is completely normal, but my left one likes to bend inwards. I was sold some running trainers with wide arches (the Brooks Ghost 15's) to try prevent this.
However, my left ankle is still sore whenever I run. I do stretch, including ankle circles, before and after each run, but it's the day after my last one and it's hurting a bit whenever I walk or put weight on it.
Does anyone have any tips to combat this, such as specific stretches or even resistance training? I'm considering having another rest day after this one, depending on if the pain continues. Thanks for any help you may be able to give me

As it is so specific, it might be worth going to a physio to hear if they have some good ideas on how to address your foot imbalances and still continue training up.
I myself have to work on ankle stiffness, as one ankle is stiffer than the other and I believe that creates the imbalances that in my case led to reoccurring calf strains last year. So I did these ankle mobility drills ( healthunlocked.com/strength... ) on my run, and they did help. But I wouldn’t know if they would help in your case.
So a physio might be able to advise much better.
Hope you find a great way forward, whilst keeping going! You are doing awesomely well!
Thanks so much for your advice! I'm on my third rest day now and it's still quite hurting to walk. I feared it would be a physio job - I'm studying abroad for a year currently so these things are a bit more complicated but I'll do some research, thank you
Depending on what university, they might have a sports clinic, and they usually have brilliant students who can advise on sports related injuries. Might be something to ask around!
I had ankle problems when i started running, pain and swelling, after that settled down I started wearing ankle supports under my socks and I haven’t had any problems since. Of course all problems are different but just thought I would share my experience.
