W7R1 - what a difference fuel makes

W7 R1 - have been trying to run before work so am up at 530. I struggle to find out what to eat before these runs, nothing seems to sit well in my stomach. Today I found a random gel in the cupboard and thought id give it a go. What a difference fuel makes! You’d think I’d know that as this is my third time doing c25k but those 25 minutes were so easy in comparison to last week. I’d rather eat whole food but right now I’ll take what my body can handle.

what are your favourite pre run snacks? - no bananas, can’t stand them.

I'm an empty stomach runner, unless I'm planning to do more than 8km.

Having said which I always have a coffee, plenty of water and often a glass of beetroot juice before I go (not as bad as it sounds and very good for novice runners according to the late, great Michael Mosley).

I make sure I've had a good meal the night before and that seems to do me.

For a long run I'd have a small bowl of porridge made with water (I don't like the idea of lots of milk before I go). Also I'll take jelly babies or haribos along.

Hope you find something that suits you :)

Nothing,, I run in the morning, before breakfast.. for many folk a healthy eating regime and great hydration, is enough to take them to the 10K marker.. after that we we all have our preferences:)

But, we are all different, wonderfully and for some, it is porridge or such like...

yes I’ve been fine previously with just a coffee/ water but agree think it’s about what I’ve eaten the night before , can be tricky with shift work.

I am a confirmed porridge eater (with semi skimmed milk). I just make sure to finish eating an hour before I run, and I have never had a problem. I take a drink (tailwind) on any run over 12k and some energy gel sweets for 10 miles plus and that’s it. Works up to Half Marathon anyway.
