It makes sense to be careful of treating highs as a norm, but I did Week 7 Run 2 today and it was quite the revelation. I really enjoyed this one. Don't get it wrong, I've actually been enjoying pretty much all of Couch to 5K so far, but a lot of it has been satisfaction from pushing myself through something at least slightly unpleasant. Today was different.
Up until now I've been heading off along the local canal. Guaranteed level (other than some very minor variations in the towpath). I set off in the other direction today, past the end of the canal, which looks fairly level but in fact rises gently (I've noticed in the past the difference when cycling along it). Maybe it's just the change, but it was one of the few runs where nothing much ached, but there was a noticable extra slight pressure on my breath on the first half, with a corresponding slight downhill for the second. I think that that might've really helped me (although having done two 25 minute runs already has probably helped more, I've noticed with every week where it's the same they get easier). It might've also help that it's a bit smoother than the usual towpath route (tarmacced, but quite a long time ago, so there's an uneveness you need to watch out for).
But whatever the reason that was a really good run that I really enjoyed. Just a pity I spoiled it by ending up in the pub later!

Very well done to you... sometimes a change of route, even just running the other way around can impact
Running up inclines is odd... and they do really, impact your running... some folk avoid them where possible.. i love them. I run at a faster pace up hill then down... and maybe you are going to find the same. My husband feels, it is because subconsciously I made more effort with them, when I started running in 2015.
Your route sounds to have been a good one.. a little downhill, to balance the up.-bit is always fun!
This could be the beginning of a whole new enjoyment...now... you just need to ditch the pub visit
Looking forward to your next post, these longer runs are fabulous!
🍏 I agree with Oldfloss Running up inclines is not only fun but strengthens your legs and lungs. Well done for varying your route… these longer runs are the best for the feel good factor. Well done !👏
However we may have to change the words of the song 🎶 And then I go & spoil it all, by saying something stupid …..
That's Run 3 done, but it might be the last for a while. Started getting shin splints towards the end in one leg and I don''t want that to get any worse. It's pretty mild right now at least, sat down with a bag of frozen peas on my leg right now just to help, but no more running until I'm convinced it's entirely back to normal.
