Hi everyone. Just back from holiday in the US where we narrowly avoided Hurricane Helene and where I was admitted to A&E with a severe bout of vertigo. So, a different kind of holiday this year!! 🤣 Now home again after all the trauma and, horror of horrors, I find I can't run! I'd just graduated and gone on to the Stepping Stones programme with Steve Cram but now I can't even stand up straight on the treadmill! 🥴🥴🥴 Has anyone else suffered vertigo and come out the other side? Any tips? I was really hoping to join my first park run this autumn 😌

Vertigo
🍏 😵💫 How I feel for you!! I too am unable to run at present. There is much help out there but you need a referral from your GP In the first instance! Let us know & welcome 🤗
Do read this if you haven’t done so already! Lots of helpful advice…
I suffered badly with vertigo/labyrinthitis when I had long COVID. I was prescribed Betahistine and it did help. I am back to running now and almost off the medicine now.
Thanks, Phdgranny, for the encouragement. So glad to hear you made it through the labyrinthitis. I had my first episode in 2018 and had been fine since then until last week when it struck again with a vengeance. My doc has said I may still be suffering side effects from the very strong drugs they gave me in the US so she's reluctant to prescribe anything more for the next two weeks but I'll bear your recommendation of Betahistine in mind. Enjoy your regained freedom! I'll be hoping to join you soon! 🤞
Yes, I've suffered with vertigo on and off for over 10 years. To start with they thought it was Labrynthitis, but then when I saw a specialist at the hospital he confirmed I have Meniere's disease. There's not much they can do about that, but I was told to keep running if I can, it helps with spatial awareness or some such.
Mine tend to come in clusters, I've had as many as four nasty attacks in one day, and once had to ask the bar staff to clear a path through a pub garden so I could stagger out. I generally chuck up.
I've been in remission for about 3 years, and in fact it has been much better since I started taking LevoThyroxine for low thyroid function, there is some suggestion that these two ailments can be linked.
I hope you feel better soon.
Oh, goodness!! Vertigo is absolutely no fun!!
I had a one month bout of vertigo. I remember my first episode in bed when I turned from one side to the other and it came on so suddenly. I felt like I was going to be thrown off my bed as it was spinning so violently.
Mine was episodic and luckily (un-) all of my episodes were at home and not in public. It was real eye-opener for me as I never realised the severity of that spinning sensation.
I did see my GP who recommended Brandt-Daroff exercises. I would recommend that you seek medical advice.
I believe mine were attributed to a viral labyrinthitis.
Yes I had paroxysmal vertigo following yoga. I did the manoeuvre to replace.loose crystals in my ear canal. It worked, but I was left with residual wobbliness that lasted several days
