I haven’t posted for AGES!! Apart from my posts as admin so I thought I’d just share my run from yesterday…..
Life is busy at the moment so my running has taken a back seat…but….I am determined to get back on track now that the weather has cooled down a bit…..
So yesterday, I opened my eyes and the first thing I thought was ‘go run…’ it’s was only 5:10am and a big part of me wanted to turn over, snuggle back down and stay warm…but the running side of my brain wasn’t having it…so I got up..my running drawer open and I quietly pulled my kit out…there’s always that one missing sock though isn’t there?? Eventually I’d got it all together, took it all downstairs & got changed so I didn’t wake daddyCav…
When I opened the back door I could not believe how cold it was!!! Brrrr…went back in to get a jacket…
Eventually I was down on the towpath, my fav place…headphones on, podcast ready and off I went…5 min warm up then I’m running..there was a beautiful early morning mist over the water…and a lone swan gliding along the water breaking through the mist…the sun was just starting to shimmer through the trees and I wondered to myself why I would want to miss such a beautiful sight??! So, keeping that thought in my mind, like I said, I am determined to get my running back on it, whether it’s early morning or early evening…what’s not to love about being outside running along, letting the stresses of the day or the worries of life go…just for a little while?
I am so looking forward to the colours that Autumn brings and am thankful that I am able to share my time with nature…just need to do it a bit more often

Thank you…yes, love it down there..there’s a nature reserve too so plenty of birds singing at the tops of their voices, especially early morning…I have to snatch my runs at the moment so yes, they’re a lovely bonus x
I love everything about this Mummycav !!! Wishing you so many more runs like this. What a gorgeous picture too-the canal is gorgeous with the mist like that 😍😍😍
🍏☺️ Oh I can feel your joy coming through and it’s so catchy!! Loved & felt part of your run. Thanks for the special photo.. yours are always beautiful or loads of fun 🤩 xxx
This is so beautiful Mummycav and the canal looks peaceful. Just you the autumn morning and of course the lone swan in the mist to share your glorious moment. Thanks for sharing ❤️🙋♀️xx
I believe it's possible for a canal boat on the canal you ran beside to navigate to the canal that I sometimes run beside on the other side of the Pennines. (It would take a few days to do so.)
I like canal towpaths, with their long flat sections and occasional slopes at the locks. The geese are sometimes a little unfriendly though.
And it is indeed getting a bit chilly these last few mornings: we've nearly had a ground frost a couple of times last week. We're getting into the "how many layers should I wear" seasons again.
Your post reminds me that I really must get back into the habit of doing early runs again. If I leave it too late the work day's momentum takes over and I end up squeezing a shorter than planned run in towards the end of the daylight.
I admire those (like yourself) who can escape the clutches of a warm bed and get out there long before others would even have dozily hit the snooze button on their alarm clocks.
Oh nowster ..i am guilty of pressing that snooze button too many times…I have a warm waterbed too so that’s even harder to get out of (literally!!!) but..I am always, always happy for the whole day when I manage to get out early doors..there’s something satisfying about being out when the neighbourhood is still asleep and quiet..
I’ve been hissed at many times by the geese protecting their young..bit like me 🤣🤣
Try an early morning run, I’m sure you’ll get back into it because it feels so good
Great post from you Mummycav, nice photo of where you ran along the canal, a few weeks ago I ran a 7k , 6K of which was along the canal bank about 6 miles away from where I live, after that run I went into a cafe and had a piece of rock cake and a coffee latte.
what a beautiful post. So atmospheric and uplifting. Well done. I’m looking forward to autumn runs too as they seem to be so much easier than those done in the heat of the summer. That said we’ve not had a great summer but hey ho. A lovely photo too 👏👏👏👏
Thank you Scruff55 …love Autumn running…just got back from another run and it was really humid!! Gorgeous seeing the sun skimming the tops of the trees
