Week 5 run 2

So after a lovely couple of days in Chester visiting the zoo I was back up bright and early this morning and looking forward to a run!

I didnt even look at what Crammy had in store for me today, just heading home muttering something about 2 runs as I set off for my warm up walk and sorted my tunes out.

Turns out Steve had 2x8 minutes runs up his sleeve today which I managed without any problems 😁 even finishing the last minute or so with a bit of acceleration.

It's great to be back out there and building fitness again!

My next run, the dreaded week 5 run 3 will not only be the longest run I've done on ages but will also be on the day that marks 5 weeks without drinking any alcohol! That's not a lot for some people I know but I've drank pretty steadily since I was about 13/14 years old and booze is as a massive part of my life, especially when it comes to the social side of seeing friends/going out or on trips. I'd found more and more though I was solo drinking at home for any excuse... Sun's out? Beer o clock! Etc...

Am I quitting drinking forever? I'd like to say yes and I hope so but I can't promise that. I have a day out with friends booked for late September and I've told them I'm not drinking, the heckling has already begun πŸ˜‚ how il react the first time I'm in a a pub I don't know but I'm just aiming for a day at a time right now and pleased with how it's going so far.

Anyway I'm rambling again!

Happy hump day all, enjoy it if your out there running today!

Go You... the no alcohol... great... we last had an alcoholic drink the week of Mr OF's heart attack and none since. A year done, in July.... not missed at all... huge benefits, even though we drank in moderation and with meals . Just do it...

The run... great and with something left in the tank too ! brilliant

Thank you! And well done on getting over a year without drink, that seems a long way off but I am starting to feel I can do it.

Already looking forward to taking on the next run too!

Flipping brilliant, I always say to run is the best gift you can give yourself but every day without alcohol is an even bigger gift! I found out at a very young age that I'm.a really nasty drunk so stopped, to the laughter and jeering of friends, imagine asking for tea or water in a pub in 1974 🀣 but times changed and eventually I became the designated driver which shut the jeering down. If you drink on a night out don't beat yourself up , but keep going as long as you can then benefits are great

Thank you! I'm a bit of an all in drinker so if I have one drink I have ALL of the drinks πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ so I'm going to see how far I can take the not drinking at all thing, as scary as it is!

I've never been a nasty drunk, usually quite a fun one but I feel I've probably put my body through enough and I REALLY can't cope with hangovers anymore, I used to be able to sleep for 3 or 4 hours and then get back on it and feel fine, these days it takes me 3 days to recover πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Weight loss is next on the agenda once I'm back up to speed with the running and I think cutting all those empty alcohol calories will be really helpful too 🀞🏻

I hope you’ll be surprised that W5R3 is very doable. I was a bit nervous, as well, but managed it.

Look forward to hearing about it…
