Dropping pulse

Hi All,

I am on my couch to 5k journey and to be honest really enjoying it. Week 5 day 3 just finished which was certainly a challenge and definitely required mental toughness. I am really slow though, but i guess speed comes later.

Although it is going well i noticed that my resting heart rate dipped from 50 BPM to 41 BPM and now my apple watch alarms all the time. It has actually given me chest pains and fortunately being private health things are moving quickly. Tomorrow i am having an echocardiogram and a heart monitor fitted for a week. As I explained to the Dr, I have always had a low resting pulse, but they have always said it is because im an athlete 😆

Has anyone else experienced this? Im still carrying on with my running

Welcome to the forum and you’re spot on-speed doesn’t matter and that can come over time. Congratulations on everything you’ve achieved so far!

It’s great you’ve got a doctor’s advice about your pulse-it they’re happy for you to carry on running that’s ghe most important opinion to get. That real life medical advice is key. I hope you get the answers from them that you’re hoping for 🤞

MissUnderstanding has given you great advice... wait until you know what is what and don't run, please, until the medical experts have given you the go ahead..

Hope you get some answers:)

I'm glad you are seeking medical advice since your low heart rate is causing you symptoms. I agree with everyone here, that you should wait until your health care provider gives you the ok to start back to running.

It's great that you are enjoying the programme, though, and don't worry about speed at this point. Speed will come with consistency and experience.

Best of luck.

Been with the specialists today to have the echocardiogram and a heart rate monitor.

Dr says it’s imperative to do what you have been doing now, so we can see what is happening 👍👍

When asking if I can run, he replied please don’t stop 👍
