So I went out this morning with vast amounts of determination & positive thoughts...run 3 of week 6...25 minutes...with my severe lack of hormones,my season allergies & incredibly tight chest...managed to get to 18 minutes then...for the first time ever since I did my first C25K back in 2018 I had to admit defeat & give up.i stood there in the middle of the street & bawled 😳🤦♀️ to say this was frustrating is an understatement & I feel utterly devastated!!!
Commiserations 🥺😟😞: So I went out this... - Couch to 5K
Commiserations 🥺😟😞
Aww, I'm sorry to read this. Hope you feel better as the day progresses. Put it behind you and try again when you feel ready. Big hug. 💐
I think most of us have been where you are at some point! Runs go like that-it doesn’t mean you’re any less of a runner than you were before you did that run. All you’ve done is proved how much it means to you and that you can stop when you need to-that’s an underrated skill. You still completed nearly three quarters of that run and that’s not nothing!
Take the pressure off your next one. It’s only training. You don’t have to prove anything. Give yourself the best chance of having a good run and just take yourself out to give it a go. You absolutely can do it. It just wasn’t meant to be today.
Thankyou so much 🤗 it's so hard the older I get the more I feel I need to prove to myself...its all very silly!!!
Hey, dont worry you will do this.
18 minutes is great, celebrate that, call it a practice run and try to go a bit slower next time out.
So proud of you for stopping when it all got too much. Better to quit than get an injury id say. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and nail it next time 😊
incredibly tight chest? Do you have asthma? Sounds like you needed to stop, your body telling you.
Hope you feel better soon, you will do this!
Yes I do & it's really bad at the moment due to seasonal allergies but the main issue is menopause!!!thankyou 🥰
I thought that might be the case! Just asking as a retired respiratory nurse, I’m a bit paranoid about asthma! I know it’s not always taken as seriously as it should be.
Please take care. I’m sure you know this!
Oh are you?yes...its tricky because it's the type of asthma that only gets bad if I am poorly or if its allergy season.tree pollen was pretty bad but this grass pollen season is awful & I was absolutely gasping!!!I had my inhaler before I left the house but it really didn't seem to help too much.i take antihistamines & have an air filter plugged in at night.its a real pain but feels worse than ever!!!
Well done for getting to 18 minutes and very sensible to stop when you did. It's been quite hot for running recently even first thing in the morning. Have a break, keep well hydrated and you will get there. Listen to your body and don't beat yourself up. As Coach Bennett always says 'You pressed start', and even if that's as far as you get you are a runner.Take care now. We have all been there in one way or another x
Well done on listening to your body and having the strength to stop. The runs will always be there waiting for you when you're ready!
Good luck!!
Gosh we are so hard on ourselves aren’t we? You are doing magnificently well just being out there ! If it feels so hard then go a bit slower and it will feel easier. Doesn’t matter that you could walk faster than you are running. You can get quicker later. Super well done for where you are already.
yes best thing to stop save injuries also 18 minutes Is still good just next time plod along well done keep going
Please please don’t feel frustrated we all have throw it in the bin!
Do you have asthma? I can give you tips on that.
The longer the distance slow down the pace. Pace will come in time!
I had a day like that on Saturday where it went wrong! As someone who runs fairly regularly I headed back out there and did it! On Sunday but recommend you have a rest day.
I literally have to have antihistamines, nasal, spray, ensure I take a puff of ventolin before I start running and sometimes while i am running! Sunglasses 😎 to keep pollen from my eyes and a small bottle of water as it’s hot!
🥵 Please don’t worry we all have bad days
It's such a pain!!!I had my inhaler before I left & take antihistamines.my eyes don't tend to get affected much.i am so slow already I honestly don't think I can go much slower 😫 it's all just got so much harder since the perimenopause ramped up so I am at the mercy of my hormones or lack thereof right now & i absolutely hate it!!!
Perimenopause was what got me Running I am 58 now. Don’t worry I am slow as well due to 2.5 stone weight gain over the last 15 months since I badly broke my shoulder!
I was supposed to have run a 10k the day I did it. So now I am starting from scratch again!
Ah bless you I can really sympathise!!!I am also carrying around an extra couple of stone more than last time I was running regularly...its so depressing...it seems to just come from nowhere!!!it's got to be harder trying to carry round that extra weight...I don't know how overweight I am because I refuse to weigh myself but my clothes are telling me everything I need to know sadly 😞
First well done for doing 18 minutes which is a whole lot more than none. Remember however frustrating it’s just one run of many. It’s also very hot which definitely moves the goal posts. Bet you get there next attempt 👍. Onwards and upwards xxx
