Hi guys.

Can anyone advise on what running trainers to purchase. I’m on week 6 and want to treat myself to some 😊

My go to running shoe both road and trail is Brooks. At the moment I run in Brooks Divide 4 GOR-TEX. I’m a size 6 but I always go up half a size to allow for extra room especially if feet are hot in the summer. Also it is advisable to have a correct gait check to see how you feet perform when you run. This link is very useful take a look healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Good luck!

Adidas for me... my road runners and my trail shoes... all bought in the sales.

Many folk have gait analysis. which is super, but I began in 2015 with the wet foot test, which worked wonderfully, for me... and I have had the same brand of shoes ever since then.

It is though so important to find the right shoes for you... and the right socks too!

This all comes down to your budget really.

As for brand, I mean, where to start? There are so many. The biggest brands are: Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Asics, Saucony, Hoka, Brooks, Mizuno, Altra, Onn, etc. Go to a site like SportsShoes.com or StartFitness and browse running shoes and you'll see how much choice there is - it's bewildering. We could all tell you what shoes we run in, but what's the point? They may not suit your foot type, your running style etc.

So the best thing you could do is probably go to your nearest specialist running store and have a chat with them and take it from there.

Enjoy!

Hi, Ive just done the same thing, I was running in Asics bought or the shelf at a similar outlet to J D Sports and they were good but thought I would push the boat out and buy something a bit more designed for running. I had never heard of Brooks but went to the proper sports shop and they had all the high end stuff. Did a foot/gait analysis and I bought a pair of Brooks GTS23, i paid $250 (about 125 pounds) with some correction insoles.

Only had them two weeks and they are a massive step up in comfort and due to the correction I think ive staved off a shine splint as I was getting that pain which, although not gone has lessened and is getting better.

Another shout out for your local running shop. Mine were incredibly helpful when I went there as a brand new runner who had just completed C25K in an old pair of ASICS that had been sitting for 10 years in the cupboard.

The gait analysis was free and they showed me shoes I'd never have thought of trying. They definitely didn't suggest the most expensive pair - when I put them on and said I wasn't sure they told me they were wrong and to try something else.

Now I'm a bit more confident I'll buy online but it's really important to support independent shops so I know I'll be going back.
