I was trying to talk myself out of running yesterday, especially after losing an hour, then I figured if I was going to have Roast turkey and possibly Easter Egg then it made sense to burn some calories 😂. Both myself and my son had managed to sleep in till nearly 10 ( nearly 9 in old money) which was about 90 mins later than usual so I wasted no more time and got my running gear on and he went off to the gym to do his run on the treadmill and I set off for my warm up walk.

It was lovely and sunny when I set off, just enough to be comfortable and I found myself looking forward to this longer run. There weren’t too many people about still and I did my 5 minutes and then started running. I decided to head out on my old favourite route and headed towards the Civic Centre. It’s funny I still say that even thought they demolished it last year, it’s just that I still refer to that area as the Civic Centre, even though it’s now just level ground and a big hoarding that says “Register your interest now for affordable retirement homes”. Obviously no-one HAS registered their interest as there is no sign of any building going on. Anyway I headed that way and tried to keep my pace down. I have a habit of going off too fast and then struggling.

I like this route as I have a rough idea of how long I have run without looking at my watch….. opposite the library is about 5 mins, entrance to football ground carpark is 10, near the turn off is 15, traffic lights to cross road is 20 and then near the gym entrance is about 25. So I can just relax and listen to Laura and the podcast and my thoughts. I saw a couple of runners coming towards me as I turned into the trail and we Helloed, and I saw another 2 single runners who also spoke. It’s funny how I prefer to see them coming towards me as I can’t really work out how fast they are then, not like when they belt past me overtaking and then then vanish into the distance before I can register😂.

I was a little wary of this run when I realised it was coming up as I have had such a big gap since I was last running regularly. But I needn’t have worried. As Laura said “ if you’ve done the previous runs you are ready for this”. And I was …. My breathing was fine and my legs were steady and nothing hurt at all ( for a change). In fact I felt like I could have carried on and done the full 30 minutes but I didn’t… 25 was what was asked for and that’s what I did. Of course as soon as I slowed to a walk I had my stabbing pain in the front of my right ankle but I stretched that out and walked on home for a well deserved breakfast.

And yes I did eat my Roast Turkey and all the trimmings and I may have also eaten half a Twirl Easter egg too but then we went for an afternoon stroll too so why not??

Unfortunately, even though I stretched well , I have been awake on and off and got up at 4.30 this morning due to achey fidgety thighs. So I think I’m going for a nice long walk before breakfast as soon as it gets light enough.

Looking forward to next week though, 3 nice long 25 minute runs and I shall be stretching even more thoroughly to prevent another night like last night!! 💪🏃‍♀️

🍏 ooh sorry to hear about your night. Hopefully the walk will sort it out but if it’s more than a niggle get it seen to straight away! Please don’t run with pain tomorrow! Such a great post from you about your run and a yummy turkey dinner too. Well done on your 25 mins and for not taking it further!! Xx

Thanks. No I quite often get restless legs and this was just slightly worse than usual. I take a magnesium supplement specifically for that which usually helps but not last night obviously!! The walk did help and so didn’t nap I had after lunch 😬

🍏Oh RLS is the pits!!! I use a Neupro patch which mostly controls it BUT some nights are from hell! There are some obvious triggers but sometimes I have no idea what sets it off!!! Feel greatly for you!!!

Another good one for you although the after effects were not great. Hope that all eases before the next one.

Great run! Do you do warm up stretches as well as post-run stretches? I found that after the first week or so of C25K I needed to do the stretch routine before and then do at least one lot of post run stretches too.

I do both yes but maybe should have done a few more when I got home- too busy getting on with my dinner and greeting family as they arrived. Definitely missed that hour!!

I remember going to a cafe to meet friends after a run last summer. It was just lovely ... until the next day when I couldn't understand why I was so sore!

Sounds like a good sensible run on a comfortable familiar route. The clock change seems to put everything out of kilter, not only sleep, but also appetite, energy.. Hope it settles down and you can have a better sleep tonight.
