So I completed week 6 and felt amazing as I never thought I’d be able to run for 25 minutes. Then last week was half term and I was relaxing and a little busy, and I’ve not been able to run 25 minutes since. I did one 20 minute, then I did a start stop run walk for 15 minutes the next time, then yesterday I had to keep stopping to walk as my legs ached and I felt like I couldn’t do it.
I am getting sick of the treadmill too, but unfortunately it’s still 33’ where I live and it’s too hot and humid to run outside. I feel like I’ve really hit a wall and at the mo I can run for 3km and I feel like I’m no where near to 5km and that running has become a struggle again.
Needing some help!

Poor you. I'd hate to run a treadmill every day, get a bit bored outside if I dont keep changing route. Is there any time of day cooler? I did w7 in 27deg just ran with bottle of water that I'd sip or tip over head as I needed to. You've come this far please dont give up. Slow down your pace a bit, it's time not speed or distance that counts and think of me running in the frosty weather with gloves and hat this morning
Unfortunately not, I get up for work at 4:45 and it’s 28’ then. In the next couple of weeks it should cool and then I’ll be able to run outside which will be nice! Thank you, that’s helped a little. I’ll try running slower and maybe give it a week to cool!
I've only just finished week 2 so I dont think I'm really qualified to give advice, but sometimes, in anything we do, we have to take a step backwards to move forward.
Why not take a couple of rest days and then mentally prepare to start week 5 from the beginning? Build up again, then 2 more rest days and you might feel better about everything and be able to complete wk6 and feel confident about moving on?
As for running indoors, I think I'd struggle with that too. If you run with music, why not try a completely fresh playlist?
Hi Egoldie ...maybe the treadmill, or 'dreadmill' as some of us like to call them, is part of the problem...it sounds to me like monotony has set in at least when you run outside you can change routes etc whereas youre just stuck with one view on the dreadmill...but at the moment you have no choice, I understand that. Maybe try a longer warm up? just because it says 5 minutes doesn't have to be that...I know that worked for me sometimes and also plenty of stretches beforehand...and maybe a different frame of mind...It sounds to me like you're expecting not to beable to run 25 mins ..you can do it, you've done it once before so theres no reason you can't do it again...why not start week 6 from the beginning and see how that goes?? Good luck
Thank you! That’s given me a bit of a boost, I shall try again today or tomorrow. I think j was approaching it a bit negatively and I’m sick of the treadmill too! Thank you. I won’t give up!
Don't give up, I'm sure you'd regret it! I really struggled with week 7 too - got through 6 no problem and somehow just hit a mental wall. But keep trying, don't let the tough runs get you down (everyone on here is super supportive if you need a bit of an uplift), and eventually you will surprise yourself
Thank you! That helps. I kept thinking I would get to the mental wall in week 3 or 4 not 7! I suddenly felt like I was going backwards! Thanks for the support!
I’ve just completed week 7 run 1 and I completely understand, I wanted to stop after 5/10 mins but I battled through. Changing my playlist each time really helps and I count my way through the songs. I find my mind gets a little bored, I want to run outside but been told it’s harder because the ground is hard so waiting until I’ve completed week 9. You will get there 😁
I completely understand I had some really rubbish runs. We all do but this is as much a mental battle as a physical one. Distraction helps so what about a comedy podcast or even something light on YouTube when on the tread mill? If you are laughing it’s hard to feel down.
Just forget the arbitrary distance goals and think time on legs. Slow builds endurance so you don’t need to stress. If you feel yourself flagging jog slower. I am past graduation and I had to slow down mid run last night. Not walking just real slow jog for a short while until I felt I could speed up again. What’s your long term goal? To be a 5k or 10k hero? Probably not. To be a better you. Probably yes. So what you have done already ticks that. so if you want , need, have to repeat a couple of weeks it will just make you even better so go for it 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 ps Google Japanese slow running it’s a real eye opener. The most important thing is reset you goals and go again. Doing and failing leads to success failing to do leads to the couch. 😂🎃 let us know how the next one goes.
Well I managed to run 25 minutes on Sunday just stopping once to stretch my calf! I hAd a more positive mindset, I was more determined and less tired and I mixed up the playlist. Still only teaching 3.5km but feeling more determined. Thanks everyone for your help!
