Well, after graduating twice I have now not run since Feb. Hips and knees are playing up. I am walking every day. Sometimes short walks and sometimes longer. Knees and hips still complain but I keep going. I am now wondering if I start at wk2 and keep repeating it it might strengthen my knees.
Anyone any advice?

How frustrating for you. Have you had any professional advice? A conversation with a physio could be really helpful in pointing you to what’s causing your pain and specific exercises to combat it. I’ve been there too. When I saw a physio, he was brilliant in telling me how much pain was acceptable for how long and at what point in my run, and what pain meant I was likely to put myself back on the injury couch.
Running through pain is rarely a good idea, difficult though that might be to accept.
I'm really writing to give you heart Basil. I too have had to restart my running 'journey' (yeuch!) more times than I care to remember. The truth is that it is rarely an uninterrupted upward trajectory.
I don't have any science based advice for you but just to reflect that what worked for me was starting slow (short distances, unconcerned about pace) and that building in rest days is increasingly important to us more senior folk. I also started cycling which, as a low impact exercise I have now fallen in love with. So in summary, low and slow, listen to your body. Good luck!
