I completed couch to 5k a few years ago & loved the experience - I was then addicted to running, to the freedom, how it helped clear my mind, distressed me, made me fitter, I could go on . However in November 2022 I got the worst news ever- I had cancer - by December 25th I was laid in hospital after having 2 major surgery's in 2 days. 6 weeks later it was time for chemotherapy & daily radiotherapy for a further 6 weeks. Not able to eat & was tube fed for 4 months - after another 2 stays in hospital & loosing over 30kg- i was weak, at the lowest possible ebb, with no view of ever getting to be normal again. To cut a very long story short - I'm happy to say in November I got the all clear, my feeding tube was removed 👌 I was told to take it slow to help the whole recovery .I made the decision to return to running - so yesterday I downloaded couch to 5k & competed week 1 run 1 & even though I was apprehensive- I get out of breath walking up the stairs now - and strugle to breath, BUT I did it & I absolutely loved it - bring on Run 2

Well done you, if you check my post from a couple of days ago you will see my experience is similar to yours, although I wouldn't compare for a moment what I have gone through the last few years compared to you.But it is great you are having another go, I have just got back in from finishing Week 1, it's hard but we both know that the system works, we both know that in 9 weeks (or shorter) we'll being running 5k or more, and beyond that we both remember that freedom when we were well enough and fit enough to do longer runs.

You've 100 pct got this, coming through what's happened and getting back to run again shows you are an absolute warrior.

oh MissTwiggy that brought a tear to my eye - you are a-ma-zing! What a lot you’ve been through and now to be slowly getting back to normality- that’s just the best. Maybe the running will give you the headspace like before to process all that has happened - we’re all here cheering you on 💪🏻👏🏼
