Week 7 Completed

This week has been a bit of a strange one. On Mondays run (R1) we managed to run the wrong time. Last week I had a quick look at what the following week had in store for us and must have looked at the wrong week. I was fully expecting a 28 minute run rather than the true W7 runs of 25 minutes.

So when Monday came, and the rain was lashing it down, we were reluctant to take our phones outside strapped to our arms as neither are waterproof. So instead of using the phone app, we just relied on my boyfriends timer on his watch set to the time I told him. (So I blame him for not checking!!).

So not only did we run longer than we should have, we did it in the most horrendous rain.

Tuesday night was a late one for me as I had to attend a works do. I think the combination of too much rich food, a couple of glasses of wine and a late night was a recipe for a disastrous early morning run. Even though I did not get up until 7 (an hour and a half later than usual) I still felt like I had only had 5 minutes sleep. At least the weather was kind to me, but still I found it hard going.

Today, after a good nights sleep and a sensible meal the night before we set off at our usual time. The weather was dry but cold (5 degrees according to my phone). We did a few minutes walk before starting the app to give ourselves a little more time to warm up. we usually have about a ten minute walk home after the cooldown session on the app so it evened it up a bit.

I started the run and immediately felt is was going to go well. I hardly noticed the upward slopes that felt like mountains on Wednesday and was feeling really good. No toxic 10 today and at the end I felt I could have carried on for a while longer. Hopefully I feel the same next week because I will have to.

Once we get back, we are only in long enough to get the dogs ready, grab a coat and change shoes and we are back out. Dog walking pace is about the same as our C25K warmup pace and we keep that up for about an hour or so with a few breaks if we meet anyone for a brief chat. I suppose that is really helping with the running to.

Looking forward to Monday, I hope its not raining as that does take the edge off of the enjoyment a bit.

Just two weeks left. It has just flown by. 😅

Great week for you! You can go into week 8 with the confidence that you know you can do the extra time because you’ve accidentally done it already!!

Those runs like the one you had today are just the best. I like the Women’s Running podcast and I’m sure (I hope I don’t get this wrong!) that they said recently a third of runs suck, a third of runs are fine and a third feel great. You’ve definitely had a great one there! We’re all chasing that feeling. If your next one doesn’t reach the giddy heights of the last one, don’t worry-you’re not doing anything wrong. It’s normal variation.

Have fun! You’re flying at the moment 🏃‍♀️💪❤️

You're doing very well Lizzie NewStart, I am so glad that you are enjoying all your runs, I don't like running in the rain either, although I have ran in the rain occasionally in the past, not long now until you graduate.

The fact that you felt like you could have carried on for longer shows you were going at the perfect pace. Well done!
