Can't really believe I've actually done it. 62 yo male, not run for 40 years. Managed to get all runs done without skipping any or getting injured - have taken it easy though.
Still slightly under 4k after 32 minutes with HR rocketing in last few mins - would just be walking otherwise.
Have rewarded myself with Garmin watch for my efforts ๐๐
There is a training schedule on watch by Jeff Galloway- run, walk, run method-has anyone tried this??
Feel in some ways might be a backward step walking again but there are some good cadence drills etc that might help with my speed. Comments welcome !

Congratulations to you Rundogrun on graduating from C25K, well done, to get your graduation badge and the word GRADUATE next to your username go to health-unlocked graduation homepage and tell the administrators that you have ran W9R3 of C25K, now go and celebrate your wonderful achievement with ๐ท and ๐, you deserve the Garmin watch
Congratulations ๐๐๐, and ooo a Garmin watch, they are exciting. Don't rush to change anything, consolidate your 30 minute runs for a while. There are some good fun 30 minute runs on the Nike Run Club app, don't worry about pace, just enjoy being a runner ๐
Well done on completing the couch to 5k. I did the Jeff Galloway plan on the Garmin for my second half marathon- after consolidating and building up to 10k and then following the Garmin plan with Amy Someone for my first half marathon. It felt like I was cheating, when I walked, but less so than if I just walked without Jeff telling me to. It leaves you to work out your own walk/run timings for the easy runs and some of them I just ran at a very slow pace. With life etc, the longest run/walk I did was 15k maybe 4 weeks before the half marathon and most of the runs were run/walk, so I was fully prepared to run/walk the half marathon and even a little concerned that my recent run/walks hadn't been long, but the strategy seemed to work, as I kept to the back, with a very slow pace, but ran it all. And the cadence drills and hill repeats are short enough that you can push a little (not my strong point, but as they were short I did them), so I think they did help too. Enjoy the Garmin watch, but don't take too much notice of the stats, they can be quite a bit out!
Thanks for your reply Kirst13.Think I will mix the training up a little and try some run/walks with the drills and perhaps a weekly not stop run? Will see how it goes. I have no problems with walking so long as it is helping me progress - if not will go back to plain old running.
Don't think I'll be doing any half marathons just yet though - maybe look at upping it up to 10k for now. ๐
That's what I originally said about upping the distances๐ If you look up Jeff Galloway and walk run, it seems to be a good strategy for "older runners" ( which is sometimes defined as over 40๐คช). Lots of good info in bridge to 10k , but enjoy the consolidation first.
Run/walk is a great strategy. Itโs a shame that couch to 5k often makes people think itโs not as good as continuous running. It absolutely is! Running is big enough for us all to find what we love and what works for us.
Iโm a recent garmin convert. Have fun with your new watch. What did you go for? I donโt think Iโve figured out all of the things I can do with mine but Iโm liking it. Just remember youโre more than your statistics and you can ignore anything it tells you that isnโt helpful!
Massive well done to you! Canโt wait to hear whatโs next, runner!
Thanks for your encouragement - will check out some of the other threads for inspiration. Thinking of trying run/walk for a few weeks to see how it feels, in fact I actually tried a short run yesterday.
Went well with picking pace up a little between 30s walks you can actually cover more distance.
I went for a Garmin 55- didn't want to spend too much just yet. Certainly lots of stats but trying not to get too involved and focus on how I feel.
That sounds brilliant. I forgot to mention that thereโs a great podcast by Runnerโs World (S1ep211) about how good run walking is and how itโs not just for beginners. That could be good company on your next run! Enjoy your watch!
