Starting my first C25K course next week!

Eight people have signed up which I think is a good number for my first course.

I’ve been browsing on here to try and pick up some tips but I think I’m ready.

Might end up asking on here if any questions come up that I can’t answer.

Good luck SM - although I'm sure you won't need it. I reckon you will be an inspiration 😊

Have fun SkiMonday ! Point everyone towards this forum, tell them to read the FAQ, and if all else fails, channel Tim.

Please let us know how it's going, as I'm sure it'd be interesting both for those currently doing the programme and those who've completed.

Sent out the final details to the course WhatsApp group.

Then realised I’d missed someone out (doh).

Sent the details by messenger and it’s all looking good so far.

So glad you’re in the position to be doing this! You’ve got so much experience-those newbie runners in your group are lucky to have you. Really good luck and can’t wait to hear how you get on.

I'm impressed. As one of several run leaders who has helped out when we've run C25K courses - 8 times now - I'm wondering if you have anyone to help out?

When we've done, we normally have at least 2 run leaders to cater for the different natural speeds in the group. Quite often we would have 1 at the back, middle and up front - so we were quite spread out but it meant that everyone was catered for in terms of pace.

That would be good! Unfortunately, it’s just me. We’re only a small club and one of my main motivations for doing the course is to try and grow it.

I plan to keep them all to the pace of the slowest runner for the first run to try and minimise the number of sore limbs! After that, I have some ideas: 1/ ask the faster runners to go ahead and loop back 2/ try to co-opt someone with a suitable watch to act as a back marker 3/ run on the field, maybe round a short course so everyone’s in earshot (guess a whistle might help).

What sort of a mix of new runners do you have in your group?

Mostly people who haven’t run for a while (some since Covid). There’s one complete beginner (who’s already doing 45 minute dog walks so fitness shouldn’t be a problem). There’s also a guy I was running with earlier in the year; he dropped out to work on an allotment and is using this as a way to start back.
