W2R3 ... Not - One Week On

Well, this time last week I was feeling v sorry for myself ... ๐Ÿฅน ... so the gremlins took advantage and were at their best๐Ÿ‘บ ๐Ÿ˜ฑ ๐Ÿ‘นI had gone out full of confidence determined to wrap up W2 ... and couldn't wait to get started on W3. ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ˜‡

But like they say, pride comes before ๐Ÿš‘ ... Well luckily I didn't fall ... but I didn't run either. ๐Ÿซข ๐Ÿ˜ช

A couple of steps in after warm up's enthusiastic ๐Ÿฅต brisk walk ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ ... and a pain โ“ โ— โš ๏ธ ๐Ÿšทin my Achilles ๐Ÿฆถ frustratingly caused me to abandon ship ๐Ÿ›ณ๏ธ โŒand half-hobble-home. ใ€ฝ๏ธโฎ๏ธ ๐Ÿ”™๐Ÿณ๏ธ๐Ÿซฃ

So ... I've missed C25K so much! ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ ๐Ÿ˜ฉ ๐Ÿ˜ซ ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

But I've also also had a virus ๐Ÿค’ (Covid from visiting LO in EAU?). Lying here with a temperature I've been half resting ๐Ÿ˜ด and -in the last few days after googling loads on You Tube ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ”‡ ๐Ÿ’ป- have been trying a little physio from a really good video ๐ŸŽฅ. I'll see if I can post a link ๐Ÿ”— ...

So what now? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ ๐Ÿ˜ง The pain has lessened a lot and the stiffness is starting to as well. ๐Ÿฆถ๐Ÿค• ๐Ÿฅณ

... But although the mind is very willing and ready ๐Ÿ™‚, I do feel quite scared even to walk atm. ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ” ๐Ÿฆถ๐Ÿฆถ

Ideas anyone? Greatful to those who have already given me some hints and support. You know who you are ๐Ÿ˜˜ ๐Ÿฅฐ xx

Oh you have been through a bad time, Covid can really get you down. I cant really help with the Achilles, apart from suggesting you get it checked out by a doctor or physio as they will be able to advise you.

Dont run in pain and I hope it heals soon

Thankyou SueAppleRun ... I won't run in pain. I will be quite scared to run for a while I should think - at least for now I had a taste of what running is to me. Loved the freedom and benefits - both physical and mental. Good memories and hopefully one day ?soon will be back ๐Ÿ˜˜

๐Ÿ๐Ÿค—โค๏ธโ€๐ŸฉนSoooo sorry. Sounds as if you need a hug, a complete rest, lots of fluids and later some medical-advice on that Achilles!

Sorry to hear this. Achilles stuff can be quite tricky. General approach is first of all to rest, to ease the symptoms, and then to progressively load it, i.e. do a bit more on it each week. Complete rest will do nothing for it.

Would agree re: seeing a sports physio (with specialism in running preferably), maybe your GP can refer you to one.

In the meantime, have a look at eccentric heel drop and calf raises on YouTube, as well as Tom Goom, The Running Physio (writes and talks a LOT about Achilles issues) and Mike James, The Endurance Physio (disclaimer: Mike is also my coach). Both of them have strong online presences and offer sound, sensible and pragmatic advice.

Good luck.

Hello ...

You have had and are having a rough time... and the new super bug going around which many are getting is a real pain! I think a fair few folk are suffering right now...

All we can do is just rest up and try an stay positive... ( hard though it is) and know that the runs and the exercises will wait...

I do emopathis weith that fear of moving out... I am walking and feeling the urge to move faster but a tad afraid that it will set me back!

I am just about...I hope... to post a little post on S and F about coming back to exercises after illness or injury... because there are so many folk suffering right now!

Wait until the temp is back to normal... hydrate well and sleep if possible too...

We look forward to your coming back at full strength x

I've had so many issues with back, knees, calves, hamstrings etc and those have been various forms of agony, so achilles is naturally one I have dreaded ... but have so far avoided. I'd definitely second those who have advised you seeing a physio. I've seen a private physio for my back (it was he who got me on to C25K) and an NHS for my hamstrings. Both were awesome and have helped enormously. The pain will stop you from pushing through it, but don't try anyway. The cliche about the runs being there in the future is true: I'm back onto Week 5 of the programme now and just know I have much more in the tank, energy wise, but constantly telling myself I'm taking it easily because of back & muscle issues. I'll get there again - an iso will you.

As for Covid ... I confirm it is an absolute bugger. Rest up. Be gentle with yourself. When you are ready, try to find other exercise that will work until you can run again - swimming? Row machine? Bike? I don't know - physio WILL!

Good luck & take care!

Thankyou for sharing your experience Olliebear125 . Week 8?! Oh so close to the end, poor you! At least I've only just started really, so not such a heavy loss. My leg is - dare I say it - starting to recover.

Very best of luck โ™งโ™งโ™ง to you on your journey this time round. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ˜˜
