help! Quad pain has set me back to the beginning!

hi, please help! I was doing so well with the programme. I completed week 5 run 2, then moved onto run 3. That’s the one with 20 mins of non stop running. I completed it but my quads were burning the whole time. 3 days later, I tried to do week 6 run 1, and couldn’t complete it because the pain in my quads was so bad. I always do the warm up and cool down walks. I always stretch before and after. It’s been 2 weeks now and there has been so much pain I haven’t attempted another run until today (I am very active anyway, so a lot of walking and cycling). The run today was bad. I managed 4 x 1 min runs and my legs are tighter than ever. What can I do???

If it's 2 weeks and no better I'd suggest it's time to see a doctor or physio

Firstly do go and get checked out by an expert... maybe a sports physio might be your best port of call. We do have ideas and suggestions, but until you have an expert diagnosis, they may cause more damage .

Ok, I’ll get on it! Would you recommend stopping the runs in the meantime or try and carry on? Thanks again

You should never run through pain, you may make things even worse. If it still hurts after a few weeks then something isn’t right.

Don't run in pain, you may do more damage, and I'm afraid only you can decide if it's just a niggle you can run through or real pain that needs to heal before you run

Yes... do please stop running.

That’s such a shame for you.

I think that’s a recognised runner’s condition and there are specific exercises you should do. I had shin splints but I have read others about the issue and symptoms you are describing .

Your GP may recommend specific exercises or a sports physio would definitely be able to assist. I would very much presume that you should not continue to run through the pain until the problem has been checked by a medical professional.
