W9R1 Lovely sunny morning today and ground smells fresh from the rain. Enjoyed the run this morning - 30 minutes, 4.25 km. Two months ago I was out of breath running for 1 minute. Seem though to be veering between feeling really positive and discouraged by my progress. Finding these longer runs hard on my legs. Doing pre and post exercise stretches but still aching the next day. Yesterday I tried a few knee strengthening exercises which I had to stop as the squats were really painful for my knees. Think perhaps I'll try wall squats or something more gentle. Must admit I find the aching joints/muscles discouraging. Hoping it'll get better as I get stronger.

Hello Violetcream well done on getting to week 9!you are almost there! For the aching knees and muscles what works for me is to run really slow, beyond slow πππso slow I could carry on after the 30 minutes... and it makes all the difference between feeling it next day, or not at all! If I go faster I run more distance which is satisfying but then I can feel a bit of inflamed knee pain lurking the next day. I want to do this forever and the worst thing would be injure! ππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈSo slow does is! All the best in your last couple of runs ππΌππΌππΌ
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm nearly there! You're right. I ran at snail's pace on Saturday π π’ and was a lot less achy on Sunday (ill-advised squats aside!). I run with my partner and he has a smart watch that records speed, distance, splits etc. I've said I don't want to know the stats but I get the summary version - "much slower today", "last km was quicker". I suppose we're all motivated by different things π Saturday's run was great as I took time to look at the lake, feel the breeze and smell the trees π³
How many squats did you do? I do 10 and that was hard at the beginning, now I do 10 while I brush my teeth, 10 while I dry my hair, 10 while the kettle boils for tea and so on through the day, I've built up over the years and it makes a difference
Hello Ms Yo-yo πͺππ couldnβt help myself! π
Thatβs great youβve done W9R1 π
I agree with SueAppleRun, start off slow with one rep and then build it up. Just like youβre running! Youβve got this π€ππ
