I'm back and determined!! 🤨

Hi folks,This is my second crack at completing this. My first attempt went swimmingly well up until the second to last run of week nine when I somehow managed strain my hip so badly that it affected me for months and stopped me running completely. I was managing sub 30min 5k's in that final week, so I know I can do it, I just hope that my body survives this time. Lots of stretchingthis time me thinks...

So, it's now just over two years later, I'm 54, active, the hip has 100% sorted itself out, but I've also picked up a leisurely stone and half, so it's gong to be tough and I'm going to have to go careful, but after one run I feel great - achy- but great!

This time I WILL succeed!

Onwards!

Dave in Norfolk.

🙌🥳You certainly will succeed! In fact you have succeeded by making a start! Every time you get up and out that door and attempt a run you are succeeding. That’s all you have to do and keep doing! Good to hear that all is well now! Enjoy following the program & doing some dynamic warm ups before if you can and stretches afterwards. Makes a big difference! Keeping well hydrated every day is another vital tip!

Great to have you here! You know you can do it which can give you a mental boost. Plus you’ve already got all that experience from last time too. Have a fantastic time through the program and get ready to have a lot of fun! Keep it steady and if your hip starts grumbling, it’s worth seeking advice earlier rather than later. When I had problems, my physio got me doing strength work so it’s might be a good plan to think about adding that in to your routine too to keep that injury at bay.

Good luck!!

Yes, my thoughts exactly. I'll keep an eye on it, and I'll definitely stretch more than I did last time.

Well done on restarting FarFromPastIt !

Sub-30 minute 5ks as a beginner runner are very speedy indeed, and I have to say I'm wondering if that pace was a factor in your hip injury.

Despite the programme name the aim of C25K is to complete three non-stop 30-minute runs in week 9, the distance is irrelevant. Keeping to a pace at which you can comfortably hold a conversation will actually get you running further - literally and metaphorically - and will reduce your risk of injury. Maybe have a (re-)read of the programme guide, as it's got lots of useful tips: healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Enjoy your running!
