I’m a bit confused-what makes you think your run “won’t count”? What do you need it to count towards? You’re no worse a runner than before you started- you have more minutes in your legs than before and you certainly haven’t blown anything!

You’ve graduated! Not every run needs to be thirty minutes continuous running to be a good run. I often wonder if couch to 5k puts that idea in many people’s heads. If you want to do those extra eight minutes, you can but it would be absolutely fine to say that today, your run was twenty two minutes and that was still a good run.

Going forward, what about mixing up your runs so you’re including some shorter ones? I love a twenty minute run. It’s actually my favourite everyday run to do!

Thanx you’re right it does make sense now you’ve said it. A shorter run doesn’t mean I’ve blown it thank you I need to think like that going forward xx

Excellent! It’s so easy to blow runs that don’t go quite to plan out of proportion. I’ve been there! They honestly happen to us all. Just chalk it up to one of those days and I’m sure your next one will be better.

What about planning to do a fifteen/twenty minute run next time and see how that feels?

That’s good advice and feel like you understand because you’ve been there it’s easy for someone to say it’s still a run don’t worry. BUT when you planned a repeat 30 min run in your head and don’t achieve it then it’s hard mentally you seem to get that thank you. X

Literally this Monday, I set out for a 5km run and had to stop at 3km! It is disappointing when it happens, and I’m not in any way trying to say that it isn’t, but it’s a sign of a strong runner to be able to say “this is the run I had in me today” and not to get too bogged down by it. The more you run, the more you’ll have days like that, and hopefully the better you’ll get at how to view them.

If you use the Nike Run Club app, Coach Bennett is really good on what a successful run looks like. It isn’t always completing the run you had planned!

Blown it 🤔 ?

Blown what ?

It's not compulsory to run for 30 minutes!

Nothing wrong with a shorter run 🙂.

You've graduated, it's up to you now what you do and they certainly don't all have to be 30 minutes long, I have run close to 2 hours and I have run 10 minutes, they all count

I haven’t done all 3 runs in a week at 30 minutes I have mixed them up a bit shorter, longer etc on some runs I planned to do 30 mins and stopped at 24 minutes due to going out late and not having enough time before work, a run is a run and don’t feel like you’ve failed because you haven’t, it’s good to mix up the run durations as it makes it interesting 😃
