Help with pain
1. Both shins?
2. Where on the shin(s) ?
3. How long is the discomfort lasting? Is this during the run and/or does it continue for more than 24-48 hours ?
It's both shins right below knee... I last run Friday and I'm still in pain
It can be different things. For me it was footwear: it turned out I needed shoes with lots of cushioning. Everyone is different though.
Hi Klo77 , sorry to hear you're in pain. Have you read the How to run C25K guide? It's at healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and there are lots of useful tips.
Taking rest days, good hydration, suitable footwear, warming up and cooling down properly, not trying to run too fast... some or all of these might be helpful. Hope you find a solution.
I got proper running shoes and did pre and post stretching which seems to have sorted it. Good luck with it!
Around Christmas and into January of this year I had a bought of bad shin pain all down the outside of the lower left leg i couldn't walk with my dogs (on top of knee pain) after taking time out and massaging and foam rolling it went completely, it worked for me and i no longer get that after increasing strength training on non run days and good dynamic stretches before every run and good long stretches when i get back from every run, but i am not qualified to give advice
I had bad shin pain - I think it was what they call shin splints - during week 3 of C25K. I stopped running for a couple of weeks and followed NHS advice:
nhs.uk/conditions/shin-spli...
When I started running again I made sure I did stretching exercises after every run. Not been a problem at all since.
Good luck and I hope it improves soon. Important not to continue running whilst you have the pain.
