Following my recent knee disaster, the physio saw me and suggested elastic knee support and various exercises a week ago, but following a few days rest I have only just started with the knee support (which I find allows me to walk a slow mile without any pain) and haven't started the exercises yet because I feel unsure about when is the best time to begin? When the physio pulled me about to test where it hurt, it didn't hurt much anywhere, so I felt optimistic and walked a mile the following day as she suggested....but after a mile the burning above the knee returned. I'm being super-cautious because I have only five or six weeks before a long-planned camping/walking holiday! Does anyone with experience know if I should start the exercises regardless of the knee burn or wait for more natural rest and healing first? I know I have a bunion which effects my gait, but I have now renewed the insoles which correct this as the old ones were long past renewal date. I can't get a podiatrist appointment until early April. My question is, exercises immediately or just continue with short slow walks for now? Any experience-based advice much appreciated!

I think this would be best answered by the physio.

Hi DonKey44 , I agree with John_W - please check back with your physio.
Even though I have experienced knee injury I'm just a random stranger on the internet, not a health professional, and what's right for me isn't necessarily what's right for you. Sorry not to be able to help more, and hope you recover soon.

Do please go and get some expert advice. We are unable to give medical advice and as Cmoi says, although folk may have or have had similar issues, the treatment for them and their own experiences will be totally different .

I occasionally e-mail my physio with this sort of “follow up” question. She always sends a helpful response within 24 hours. If she needs to see me, she just says so.
