Shoes

Something that seems obvious but I'd mention it, as many, like me, may find their old runnig shoes 'comfortable as an old shoe'. I caved in and bought a pair of new runners after over 10 years of using the old ones. The result:

No more knee and ankle aches, ligaments are at peace

Generally, less pain

2 minutes shaved off my 5k

I know it's obvious but it took me a year to muster the courage and actually do it. It's worth it!

I was told when buying my running shoes to get 1 size bigger than normal shoes, my normal shoe, boot, and slipper size is 7, however, I bought size 8 for running and also find that size 8 is far more comfortable for walking boots as well, I have a pair of size 7 walking boots which are very uncomfortable to walk in, in fact they almost "killed me" when I had a short walk, Congratulations on that 5K run in your new shoes which shaved off 2 minutes.

You were running in the same shoes for ten years lecureuil ?! I think I'd have worn holes in the soles with that much use, and probably done myself irreparable harm into the bargain.

New shoes were more than deserved, happy running!

Yeap. I just told myself all of that was because I was getting old.

your post is a timely reminder that I need to go shoe shopping. Whilst I definitely can’t claim to have had my current running trainers 10 years - my Garmin is telling me that they’ve done their miles and it’s time to go. I can’t say I’m a fan of shoe shopping at all so I’m trying to put it off but maybe I should just get it done and see if there are any benefits of fresh bouncy foam!

My legs were telling me but I wasn't listening.

The fear of new shoes! I have it too :)

I guess I was squeamish about releasing another pair of shoes with life in them to the tip. The sole was coming off, so I took them to a guy that fixes shoes to glue it back. He gave me some strange looks but I didn't get the hint.

I fear I started also with some old Tennis shoes (pictured with my digital scribbles) , but on graduation moved on. 😁👟🤣🤣

But I’m glad I have a picture of them. Strangely I was quite emotionally attached! 🤣🤣

Enjoy your new shoes!

After the first run in new shoes, the old ones went straight to the bin, along with much joint pain.

I can’t beat 10 years but like you I finally plucked up courage and went to my local running shop and they told me my trainers were 7 years old! I love my trainers but have ordered the latest version of the old type. Both old and new pairs are 1 size bigger than my feet- I’m waiting for them to arrive- will report back on!

Congratulations on the new shoes! By the way, the tradition is to post a picture of them so we can all feel jealous, that's half the fun :) 👟👟
