Just found this community and thought I’d post a quick ‘Hi!’ 👋
I did my first run on New Year’s Day after a pre-Christmas illness which scared me enough to realise I had to do something about my health. Just finished Week 2 and starting Week 3 tomorrow.
Would describe myself as a very unfit, overweight, middle-ager who has spent too long on the City lunch circuit hoping this programme will drive a few lifestyle changes.
All the best to my fellow wheezers out there. If you get to end of a run and wonder how you managed it, you’re not alone!

Welcome to the forum! We’re a really friendly place and all about supporting each other, regardless of where we are on our running journeys. You’ve made a great decision to make those positive changes for your health. Wishing you lots of luck.
There’s a brilliant little guide to the programme here with lots of helpful hints and tips. Well worth a read. Most important is keeping it slow and steady at a pace where you can talk in full sentences without gasping. Most of us go too fast! No need to be a wheezer…just slow down as much as you can so you can breath more comfortably. My pride kept me running too fast for too long…it’s counter intuitive but you’ll actually develop better as a runner at that comfortable pace. The earlier you can nail that, the better!
Recovery days between runs are absolutely essential too.
Welcome. Follow the links given , slow and steady as you go! Do keep posting here too!
Well done OB. I must say that I found chatting and posting here really helped my motivation. Reading other people's entries oftenn makes me want to run,
Also, loads of experienced runners who will have faced similar (if not the same) challenges. Keep at it 😃
