This was a strange one still perplexing me hours later

I ran week 7 day 1 today on the gym treadmil, while getting water someone commented that they'd seem me on the treadmil and could never run like that

I explained that 8 weeks ago neither could I and showed them the app but he just flatly refused to accept that so much progress could be done in 7 to 8 weeks

I wasn't going fast 6kph and only a 1% incline so a bit taken back by this

Anyone else had this ?

I can honestly say that that’s never happened to me. What a strange person! I’ve had lots of people say lovely things about making a lot of progress in a short time. That’s about it!

I believe you!!!

You are proving to them, just what we can do, when we wish too... Well done you. I do know that we have had many folk on here who have had comments about their running... and most of them usually positive...

Sometimes we do get folk who have been told they are too old to run,,,, no one has ever said that to me though... they know that snails bite ...grrrrrr!

( Snails have on average over 14,000 teeth.... you really wanted to know that didn't you )?

Very well done you!

What a bizarre reaction Ardenk ! Is everyone who follows C25K lying about their progress then, or has he reserved this particular accusation for you? He really should try C25K for himself, then he'd know what he was talking about.

Well done on your progress, and enjoy completing the programme !

Take it as a compliment as to how good you look when running!I think a lot of people who have never run don't believe it's possible to achieve so much in a short space of time-to be honest I had my doubts that I would complete the programme when I started out!

Such a shame everyone won't just give it a go-they really are missing out.

That's to bad for them! Not believing you means they aren't believing in themselves, which of course would make C25K perfect for them... Maybe see what happens... I could imagine they might be back with "what was that app again?"

I also agree with others that this shows how far you've come!!! Congratulations, Ardenk !

Hi Ardenk, are you amazed with your progress? My wife still doesn't believe it in spite of seeing me run!!!! My grand daughter who ran with me in week 1 saw me a few weeks later run round the Park while she played with her brother. When I finished the circuit she exclaimed Grandad you can run properly , unsaid in the incredulous look was How did that happen? It has me wondering what other potentials do I have locked away that might be encouraged to see the light of day. But the running is what you see on the outside. Unseen is the positive changes to your cardiovascular system. Well done and watch out for the buzz and big grin when you finish week 9.

Good luck Ardenk ignore the doubters. I put a post on FB celebrating my first 5k and in amongst all the nice comments was one 'friend' who belittled my achievement by pointing out doing 100mtrs in 36 seconds was hardly running! I pointed out I thought he was a tad rude.

You don’t need friends like that!!

you are obviously proof of it! People do come out with strange things sometimes…and have very odd preconceived ideas…..…..I was doing a virtual run a while ago, - a well advertised one…..had numbers to wear etc….so anyone seeing us would know what we were participating in….., the weather was just awful, we were out early……came past some dog walkers, I was going along at my (slow) steady pace - my OH and his friend were a little distance in front…….and a man said to me…….’are you doing all of it…..’ …..at the time….I just said ‘yes’ but afterwards I thought, how rude…..!

No, I’ve just decided to put this number on, come out in this awful weather just for fun….and just round the block!

Be very proud of yourself!

Well done you!👏

Mxx

Ps - it took me a lot longer than the 9 weeks of the programme to get to run for 30 mins - but I got there……we’re all different….😉 oh and yes- I did complete that virtual run, I have the official result to prove it! 😀🏃‍♀️

Firstly well done on your progress. As others have said the programme does work even if you are a snail like me. Sometimes people dismiss things and then come round in their own time. Just keeping going 🏃🏼‍♂️🏃🏼‍♂️

To be fair this would have been me! I would never have believed at the start of Cto5k I would ever be able to run for more than 30 seconds! I now run 3-5k (depending on energy levels) three times a week...

Surely you wouldn’t have actually said it to someone though? That’s effectively accusing someone you don’t know of lying.

That's true! But I might have thought it!! I wouldn't have said it though!

No, I’ve never had someone say this. I’ve said it to myself though! Still can’t believe I can run sometimes. Best of luck with your next run!

Put it down to jealousy! We all know the truth here! Who knows, maybe you will have sparked his curiosity enough that he went home and looked up the programme 😀I ran one of the week 8 runs with my 10 year old daughter who I was away with at the time. She was so sure she'd be able to out-run her old Mum. I had to leave her on a bench and circle back as she couldn't keep up, she was exhausted but really quite impressed 😂

You must have looked like a gazelle Ardenk! I haven’t had that reaction, but I’ve had lots of people say they can’t do c25k because they can’t run (due to bad knees or other reasons). Or running is not for them. No information from me is going to persuade them otherwise.

I had bad knees and high blood pressure before starting running, now I have neither. It really is the best medicine!

Keep running , keep smiling

Usually this kind of comment is a defence mechanism, as if he accepts what can be done in a short time he also has to accept that there's a lot more he could be doing and isn't! People like to make excuses to themselves that they couldn't possibly invest the time needed to learn to run (or anything else for that matter) and when you illustrate how little is really needed they'll flatly deny it rather than just admit they're too lazy/ don't care enough/ not that interested. 🤣
