So I've just completed First Run with Coach Cory who told me I was probably running too fast. I thought if I ran any slower I'd be going backwards ๐ณ I do like doing a guided run and think I'd like to try another Coach Bennett but am finding there are so many runs on the NRC app it's hard to sort them out. Can anyone advise me? Is there a method? Perhaps I need to update my app? Anyhow, it's done and I'm a Badass! (Apparently ๐คฃ)

FIRST RUN.....WITH COACH BENNETT ๐
I can totally relate to this! Where are you on your running journey? I would be tempted to choose a plan and follow that. You could just do the recovery/long runs where Coach B is most likely to be found. That would give you a structure to follow and remove the โI have to choose a random run from loads of themโ issue. The half marathon plan has a recovery run every week of about 30 minutes which would take you through a good selection of them.
It might be worth asking on bridge to 10k where more posters are off the c25k plan and using NRC.
Thereโs also this super resource on bridge to 10k which you could use as a structure for which recovery runs to do.

I have graduated twice and done a couple of 10k runs. Have lost motivation this year hence my foray on to NRC. Good idea to ask 'the other side!' ๐
Fab! Just so itโs clear, I wasnโt trying to push you to train for a 10k/HM-just know there are lots of posters using app over there. You can easily modify any of the plans to stick at shorter distances. Thatโs most likely what Iโll be doing over the winter while the weather isnโt so lovely!
I appreciate the suggestion. I tend to post on C25K because I generally run about the 5k. I have actually started running during the day after eating and feel a difference so perhaps my distance will increase. I used to run first thing on an empty stomach!! I'll need to try things out and will probably find my 'thing' along the way ๐
Snap, I found NRC app a little confusing and I tried Coach Bennett as the default but a bit harsh after Jo Whiley on C25K!! I know most of my routes and now set my watch with either a distance or time objective and then call the shots on pace as I'm on the run. Having said that it's a walk at the moment, one week on from abdominal surgery so sore still and no running allowed. Not much help but it's a great question and I'll be looking out for the answers you get. I guess if I had a target which required a performance improvement then I might stick with an NRC guide.
I too have done some NRC runs and have found Coach Bennett very motivating. Todays run with the coach was only 2 minutes slower than my 5k Park run last weekend with 100 others.
When I was just starting to use the NRC app shortly after graduating C25K I found the Mindfulness runs really worked well. It's Coach Bennett and the guy from the Mindfulness app whose name escapes me. Very good for getting you to think about what you're doing, why you're doing it, what your body is up to, what's going on around you etc. Highly recommended.
Andy Puddicombe. I really like those runs too!
Mix em up within reason.
Coaches or runs? ๐
I think the NRC 5k plan is great for the purpose of getting to know the variety of NRC runs. Itโs not a beginners plan, but rather one for runners who want to improve their 5k time.
I did this one after I graduated (2nd time around) from C25k.
Hope this helps!
Iโd second starting a plan. Thereโs a starter plan, a 5k plan, a half marathon plan and a marathon plan. Iโm following the HM plan at the moment but it starts at 5k. There are 5 runs per week, a 15 min overview of the week, a couple of interval runs, a recovery run (often about 30 mins) and a longer run. I just work my way through them doing 2 runs a week. I may not get to HM distance but itโs quite nice having the structure and choosing the runs to fit into the time I have. The runs are narrated by a variety of coaches too.
A plan sounds good although because I've just started again I think 5k to start with would be too much. I think I might go for the 5k plan. Even having a structure for that would be beneficial I'm sure. Thanks for the information ๐
When you say youโve just got started again, are you doing c25k? That 5k plan is good but I wonder whether itโs a good return to running plan because of the speed work. Perhaps go super carefully if you havenโt been running regularly in a while.
Good luck with whatever you end up doing. โค๏ธ
