This afternoon, went for my 5k run & half way it rained on me😰😰. I could’t cope, my specs foggy, clothing soaking wet and heavy.
Anyway, I managed to run 3km.

So you turned defeat into a 3k win! Not every run needs to be 5k (said crossing fingers behind my back 🤣)
Running in the rain can be fun but it can also be no fun at all.
The main thing is you did a run! 👍🏻😁
3km is so much better than 0km! Some of my speed runs are also 3km. Think of it as wet-weather training!
Just in case you haven’t discovered peaked caps yet 🧢 , they are the best things to keep rain or sun off one’s glasses.
I’ve got now two lovely ones that also ensure the sweat doesn’t reach my eyes!
Well done ! 👏👏👏
im personally not a fan of running in the rain 😁
Excellent! To quote a favourite from Coach B, when you can’t run the run you want to run, run the run you can run. Top quality job switching to the 3k. You’ve reminded me that when I was doing the magic plan fo get to 10k, I’d often start a run not totally set on whether was going to do the short, medium or long run based on how I felt. I’ll try doing that again-it worked really well before. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks MissUnderstanding . True sometimes plans don’t go accordingly.
The numbers don’t tell the full story anyway. Today was a heroic run in the rain where you battled your way to 3k (spending however many minutes getting soaked). That’s a win. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a 3k run anyway. The first run of every week of my half marathon plan was shorter than that!
Never feel defeated on C25K B_Dio, some runs are better than others, some like the run you had today are just sheer miserable due to the horrible weather, well done on running 3K, wait for better weather before you run that 5K.
I’m with everyone else. you went out you ran and you got rained on, that’s 3k more than I did so well done you
I didn’t enjoy rainy runs at first for all the reasons you mentioned but found the cap mentioned & rain jacket from Sports Direct & now I am able to embrace them.. I ditch the music & instead listen, feel & smell the rain & watch it change the sea view completely…. I look forward to that warm shower, cup of coffee & the next sunshiny run. Who cares if it’s just 3K or 5K.. a run is a run…well done 👏
And that’s ok. You did 3km. You went running. Plans change.
Definitely second a peak cap to keep rain off.
Agree re peak cap and the rain. Also, you don't need to worry about erfect hair , double win. I find rain or shine my run can vary day to day, so don't beat yourself up, tomorrow is another day.
you did great - stuck at it and did 3k - brilliant! Do the run that suits you in the day, at that time —— forget the numbers and enjoy 😊
Defeated? No! You did brilliantly running so far with wet soggy clothes carrying a bucket of water with low vision through your specs! Well done!
Fair weather runner here 🙋🏻♀️
…so flipping well done! Sounds like a magnificent 3k battle against the elements to me! Well done!
👏🏼🙌🏼🏃🏻♂️🌬☔️💨⛈
perspective! You are good enough. You rocked 3km in rain. I feel a raindrop and I run into the nearest shelter! And I don’t feel defeated. You should feel great.
I won't usually set off if it's already raining or if rain is imminent. However, I have been caught out in the rain many times and (as long as I'm warmed up) I've been fine with it, even when it was wet hail.
Yes, you feel like you need windscreen wipers on your glasses.
Next time, I will plan ahead. I think mentally, I was not ready to run in the rain.
This morning's run started dull and damp but at about three quarters of the way round it started to rain. It came in at an angle of forty five degrees, was cold and had the wind behind it. I had a slightly thicker long sleeved top on and I hardly noticed the wetness, even on my exposed legs (I was wearing trail shorts).
The important thing is that I was already warmed up. I don't notice the cold and wet anywhere near as much once I'm at least ten minutes into a run.
Also, sports synthetics clothing that's available nowadays feels warm when wet.
As so many others have rightly said, a 3k run is a run B_Dlo , well done! I bet you'd have been really happy with that before C25K.
I noticed you said your clothing was soaking wet and heavy. Are you wearing cotton, by any chance? If so, it's not ideal for running - synthetic fabrics generally deal with rain better, and it's worth buying a few pieces of kit in wicking fabrics designed for running. You don't have to spend a fortune, I'm a huge fan of Lidl, Aldi and Decathlon running gear! In fact Lidl over here in France has just got its winter running range in and I bought a couple of pairs of socks there yesterday.
If you were running wearing wicking fabric and that got soaked through, then you deserve extra admiration because that's serious rain!
Thanks @Cmoi. Yes, I was wearing cotton clothing. You are right, I have to invest in light proper running gear. Now on a shopping spree😁
amazing work! 👏👏👏 doing 3k in those conditions is fab x
you were off the sofa that's a win, just graduated and some days it took all my willpower to complete the runs you are still exercising even if it turns to a brisk walk stick at it and try to think about anything other than the fact that you are running..
Doesn't sound like you were defeated to me. You ran 3k, brilliant. Don't get wound up by rules you don't make. You were out there, well done.
