Music App with Regular Time Updates

Hi all, does anyone know of an app where you can load your own playlist and also have regular time checks voiced over it or even interrupting the music. I do like to know how long I've been running but don't like mucking around with the phone once it's started. At the moment Laura does it all for me but I'm in week 8 now and looking forward to my own choice of music soon 😀 TIA

Hi OldmanRunning, well done on almost completing C25K, once you have graduated you can choose music and your running times, pace etc from several apps, for music I use Spotify, for running I use Mapmyrun, that tells you your time, pace and distance in kilometers or miles, I wish you good luck for your graduation run 🏃🏾.

Hi OldManRunning , tbh if I just wanted time checks, I'd use an app such as Spotify for the playlist and a watch to check the time. I'm too lazy to complicate my life further!

If you want an app with audio alerts for distance run, the free version of Strava is fine and can be used alongside other playlist apps such as Spotify.

Happy running!

Cheers Cmoi, I didn't realise Strava could do it, I'll investigate further 😀

Oh! I gotta check out Strava then... maybe I won't have to pay the 5€ for Interval Timer next time...

You can use most of the Tracking Apps (Runkeeper, Mapmyrun) etc) to give you an audio cue at a given time or distance interval, eg. 10mins or 1k, while your music plays in the background.

I use my regular music app (in my case Apple's Music) plus Interval Timer, which simply voices over. I think there's a way to pull music into IT, too, which I haven't spent time to figure out yet as I used to combine it with AudioStep, which speeds up/slows down music to a set bpm (=beats per minute)...

With Interval Timer (at least the Pro version), you can totally customize when and what cues you get... (Just note that the text-to-voice depends on your phone language - that one took me a while to figure out! My phone is set to German, yet the app is in English...)

Here's a link to Interval Timer appadvice.com/app/interval-...

And AudioStep: apps.apple.com/gb/app/audio...

You need an introduction to Coach Bennett on the Nike Run Club (NRC) app. It’s a free app that has lots of guided runs to choose from. You can play your music alongside and it will automatically fade when the commentary comes on. Then Couch B can guide and encourage you in his unique cheesy way 😂 You can choose a non guided run too and it will still give you time checks every km. Coach B is a bit like Marmite - you either love him or …. 😂😂

I use Runkeeper to track my run - it gives me stats every five minutes including pace, current speed etc (you can set it to what you want) and then I listen to music on Spotify or direct from my phone's music app. The music continues to play while the voice speaks over it.

you know you can play your own music with the C25K app right? I used Spotify for the music and C25K just cuts in over it with the time checks and helpful advice. Good for music .. not so good if it’s a podcast or audiobook and they talk over a crucial part of the plot 🤣

I always listened to my own music on the ct5k programme - I’d just start it then launch the ct5k app and the music would quieten download everytime my coach started talking then it would continue once they finished talking.

lots of good suggestions already. I’d add PaceDJ or RockMyRun as special music apps that can keep all your music at a fixed BPM so that you can easily pace yourself. Adding one of the other timekeepers to that will work fine.
