Started running at age 71 years
There are quite a few people on this forum, including myself who started running with C25K in their mid/late sixties or early 70's., even later, so well done to you if you have started the course or thinking of doing so.
Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.
We have plenty of runners on this forum in their 70s and even older so you are in good company.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5.... and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
This FAQ Post about getting older and running may also give some useful perspectives. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Run while you can and enjoy your journey.
Well done! The hardest part is getting out there. My friend started running at 67, and completed her first marathon at age 70. Still running and she is now .
Go for it!
you are a legend Trish!!
Your are an inspiration, well done. I was nervous about starting running in my late 50s. Go for it!
I am 68 with no previous running history
Completed the course in the summer just sticking to the schedule to the letter and now trying 5-10 k
It works so just go for it
I started C25k when I retired at 65. Still running 2 years later!
Pro tip…make it work for *you*. You may need more recovery days, so don’t think you need to squeeze all 3 runs in a calendar week…I often took 2 days between each run.
Also, don’t be put off by speed merchants! Easy, conversational pace is the way to go…the aim of the programme is to run non stop for 30 minutes…not run 5km in 30 minutes…a subtle difference! I’ve run many 5k since graduation…even the occasional 10k, but I’ll never, ever manage a sub 30 minute 5k!
Go for it, enjoy it, and embrace your inner snail 🐌😉🏃🏻♀️
