burning calves

hello! W3 r1 today. I thought motivation might be an issue but having completed it before I’m so focussed on the end, and am loving every run.

Am running very slowly, can hold a conversation etc, but my calves have been burning the whole time. I’m doing the right dynamic and static stretches before/after. Is it dehydration? Our car broke down last week so am walking everywhere at the moment - is it that? Not enough rest in the day off between runs? I’ve done some silly amounts of walking this week……

I would certainly consider dehydration! Are you drinking around 2.5 to 3 litres a day , even on non running days ?

Possibly more like 2L but am drinking a fair bit! Will aim to up it and see how that goes

Could be as Instructor57 says but also is it your shoes? I do several sets of heel raises during the day which have made a difference, but maybe if you are walking everywhere at the moment maybe an extra day between runs may help, try massaging them before and after if it’s tightness, and don’t push yourself it’s very hot at the moment

Don’t think it’s my shoes as did couch2 5k in them last time and was all ok. I’ve got a couple of quiet days in terms of walking so will do some heel raises and see what difference that makes!

Do you do any of the leg strengthening exercises linked to in the guide to the plan? They will make a difference.

How much strength work are you putting on on some pf those rest days, don't forget that is important before your pre and post run work...Walking is a great exercise too! Do you wear supportive walking shoes?
