Running Today!

Glad to see no post re running today! Wow it’s hot but to my surprise I did see a runner today around midday! Must be training for the Sahara or be totally mad! Looking forward to some cooler weather to get back to running. How’s everyone doing? 😅

I don't think that the runner you saw today at midday running in the 104F heat was mad, he is probably training for that Sahara ultra marathon which I think they call "The run of death", that's a ultra marathon over the Sahara Desert.

Yes that was my other thought. Count me out of that race!

I'll not be running that either, I prefer a Saturday morning parkrun.

PS, Today Adrar, Algeria in the Sarah the temperature was 40C, the same as many places in England.

Well, I did intend to run this morning as it was “only” 19C here at daybreak. But despite drinking lots of water yesterday I woke up absolutely drained.

So I had breakfast in the garden and just thought about running.

Stay safe everyone. Keep away from the Sahara Desert, Al ☀️

Yes I like to ‘think’ about running too! Far the best option in this heat.

I haven't run since Sat, initially due to the heat and was hoping to get out tomorrow but depressingly I seem to have developed ankle problems again which I'm feeling thoroughly miserable about - different to the ankle issues I had during my first attempt at C25K in Jan/Feb and despite being ultra cautious and doing ankle strengthening exercises 😭

Take it carefully Liono. Walking? Swimming? Tight support boots?

Thanks HeavyFoot. I'm feeling a bit hard done by as initially I had soreness on the outsides of the ankles, below and behind the bone. I rested for over a month, had a gait analysis and invested in decent shoes, then restarted the programme (taking extra rest days when needed). All was well and I slowly progressed and graduated. I've been consolidating for 2 weeks (so 6 runs), taking it slowly and not once running for longer than 30 mins (even though I was very tempted to finally get my 5k!) I've varied the routes and slowly introduced short sections of hill and off road. Now I have swelling, redness and a bruised feeling above my inside ankle bones 🙄 I think I need to go and see a podiatrist or sports physio really but it's prohibitively expensive!

PS Usually do lots of dog walking (apart from last few days) but don't enjoy swimming, at least not in our local pool!

Physios are expensive but not seeing one has dearer consequences. I would suggest having one appointment, get the problem diagnosed and a load of exercises to do. Make another appointment later if you feel you need it. Good luck 🤞

Yes, I'm reluctantly coming around to that way of thinking. I had an appointment the first time but cancelled it when things improved with rest! 🤦

have you thought about seeing your GP who could refer you to a specialist?

Liono profile image

Yes, someone suggested that the first time but I wasn't able to get an initial appointment for 6 weeks, then would need to wait for a referral. Although it's now looking as though this may be a recurring problem so might be worth the wait!

Sorry to hear this Liono, I really hope it starts to improve or you find out what’s going on so you can treat it - you must be so frustrated when you’ve done everything sensibly 🤞🏻

Thanks Dendev, it does feel a bit unfair but first world problems and all that! Enjoy your final run 😊🏃

Oh no, I really feel for you Liono. I know how it feels to feel cheated. I'm hoping to get back out there in the next few days following a back problem. I'd only just started consolidation runs. I too had same problem about whether to or not for physio with it being so expensive and my husband believing that "I am doing too much" I have followed the programme to the letter. He just rolled his eyes when I mentioned the word physio.

I will get a referral through the GP though next time anything happens. How ever long there is to wait. You can always cancel if the problem resolves itself or even go anyway and explain and see if they can give advice on how to prevent that kind of problem in the future.

Keep us updated and good luck!

Sorry to hear about your back Birra1. Hope it resolves soon. I have just rung the GP and much to my surprise they now have a physio that I can see many weeks before a doctor is available so am going to go down that route. My family are similarly supportive and can't understand why I don't just give up running for good 🙄 but that just makes me more determined to get back out there!

They must be crazy 🥵 I’m still waiting to complete my final run so I can become a graduate - hopefully tomorrow is cooler. 🏃🏽‍♀️

I did run yesterday but early - 7am - and only for 20 minutes. And very slowly! I’m glad I did though as it means I won’t be able to use “too hot” as an excuse not to run.

I did just the same. Fine at 7am. Lovely time to run. I might keep it going. X

I haven’t run since Sunday morning at 6:30 but I’ll be up and out tomorrow morning. I feel so much better when I get a run in but nothing would have induced me to run yesterday or Monday. I much prefer running in cold weather so summer is always a wee bit of a challenge for me.
