Well that was a mental battle. Right up until I laced up my trainers I was still undecided as to whether to repeat Week 5 run 2 for the 3rd time or go for Run 3, which was the big step up to a single 20 min run. I hadn’t run for a week due to having a bad cold, would that affect my run? Could I do it?
I decided to give run 3 a go, well I could always walk for a bit in the middle if I needed to couldn’t I? I got to 10 mins, well I’ll keep going a bit more, 12.5 mins I’ve got a bit more in me, 15 mins I might do this, 18 mins can’t stop now, I did it, a whole 20 mins!!!!
While I was running my usual motivation was running through my head, it’ll feel great to send that message to my Son (who’s a triathlete) that I did it, my tell my Husband (who has so much faith in me), and also I was reflecting on something that a customer in my shop had said last week, she said she had seen me running and I looked so determined and to keep it up. (she kindly didn’t comment on my bright red sweaty face or how slow I was!). I didn’t know this lady but her words of encouragement meant a lot.
When I started this I really wasn’t sure how far I could go, I’m 52, overweight and had pulled my calf muscle twice, last September and October. A physio told me I had a weak right leg and that I should work on strengthening it. I have been doing the exercises he gave me plus going for a cycle or swim once a week at the gym. Now I try to do 2 runs a week and one other exercise, usually a swim or a walk. It has taken me 11 weeks to get here, not 5, due to illness and fitting less runs in, but I am so proud of myself.

Huge congratulations. That’s a massive milestone. Sounds like you have exactly the right attitude. Those long runs can seem so intimidating so just chunk them down and then you can tick off the sections.
Sounds like you have great support locally and of course we’re all cheering you on too. Good luck for the next one. You’ve got this.
You sound like you’re doing brilliantly. That feeling of achievement is amazing and so worth pushing yourself just a little more isn’t it? You sound really motivated and now you’ve cracked 20 mins you’re on the home stretch - keep at it, look forward to more progress posts.
And you have every right to be proud, that run is very special and it’s exciting you’ve done it, a bit of a break means you run on fresh legs, twice a week if that’s what you can fit in is perfect 🤩 well done
Fantastic!! That's a great milestone. Doing well fitting the runs around your other activities, the actual number of weeks doesn't matter - it's your journey, at your pace. Well done.
You should be very proud of yourself HEATHJD, no, you can't stop when running run 3 of week 5, otherwise you would have to repeat it, but you ran non stop for the 20 minutes, congratulations.Run 3 of week 5 is a milestone run with C25K, onwards and upwards to week 6 run 1 but be careful about that run as it catches out some people with the interval walks and runs after the non stop 20 minutes of W5R3 which you have just ran 🏃🏾.
Well done! That is an awesome challenge and you are awesome for completing it! (I have W5R3 coming up on Friday, you have given me a real boost with this post - thank you x)
Thank you for sharing. I also have this run coming up this week and it has taken me significantly longer than 5 weeks to get here as well, so like you I will smash it 💪🙂
