Here I am with a bit of a different post... and with a weird title with a HIDDEN meaning:)

This is a combination post. ( ordinary post and Catch-Up Corner...and it would be so good if everyone on the forum could read it!

Okay, so what am I rambling about now, I hear you ask?

Rest day Exercise we All should be Doing

*Equipment Needed *

a) Comfortable seat. Your choice

b) Beverage. Your choice

c) Internet access

d) Spare time. At least 15 minutes

Oh... and a mirror!

I have been reading so many of your posts this week, more than usual, and this week, again more than usual, the number of inspirational and positive posts has been incredible.

In the last week of April, there have been many, many new runners, many Graduates and also, many runners repeating C25K.

Our New Runners are taking the first tentative steps towards a podium and a badge that may seem a long, long way off.

They are taking,( hopefully), tried and tested advice from the pinned posts of the Admin' team; learning with every run, in every week, more about their running body and more about themselves. They are taking it at their own pace and in their own time. It's their choice.

Our Graduates, are all moving forward now in whatever way they choose to. They may want to increase their distances, they may want to run faster, they may simply wish to remain, running exactly as they are now. Running, enjoying and staying healthy. It's their choice.

Our Runners who are Repeating for whatever reason, are moving forwards. They may have refreshed their knowledge of the programme, checking out the advice. They are moving forward, maybe slowly, maybe a tad faster, because they feel confident and gaining strength and confidence with every run. They may feel that more rest days are needed, giving their body chance to recover from time away from running. It's their choice.

It's their choice.

So... what point am I trying to make here?

Well... it is the posts themselves , from all these friends on this forum that are the key to my ramble this morning.

I would love to list all the posts that have inspired me this week, but that would need to be all of them!

I have read posts from running friends from all these groups this week, from our Newbies, some initially maybe, full of trepidation, but many, many already with a firm determination and a positivity that shines through their words.

From our Graduates , whose pride shines through also as they stand in that podium and bask in the glory of a goal achieved and a job well done.

From our repeaters, who, because of illness , injury, personal loss or emotional upheaval, have been unable to run. Again, that determination and motivation to move forward, however slowly and steadily, and for as long as it may take, to regain both physical and mental strength and stability once more.

But... ( there's always a but), within those posts there is information too. I read many, many posts each day, where folk have certain issues, usually when beginning and going through the C25K for the first time and there are questions being asked. Often the same questions... about speed, or distance or the toxic 10 or breathing.... the list goes on.

Now...and here is where this rest day exercise comes in!

So...how does it work?

a) Choose the time you have to spare.

b) Sit down in your chosen comfortable place.

c)Place your chosen beverage, close to hand.

d) Place the mirror next to you.

e) Switch on your laptop or phone. Log onto the C25K forum.

NOW, simply, Read as many of the posts and the replies that you are able to, before being blown away by the huge amount of information, shared experiences and answered questions are in there !

You will find, as I do every single day, that you will benefit tremendously, from the things you read.

You find answers to your questions, you will find other runners who are feeling exactly like you and you will know, whatever you are experiencing someone else already has, or is experiencing it too.

You find that although you may run on your own, you never ever run alone.

The forum is a mine of amazing and useful information, all provided by the awesome runners themselves, and for this simple exercise... all you have to do is read their posts they share so freely!

You will feel terrific after you complete the exercise and you can repeat it as often as you are able:)

How great an exercise is that? How simple is that exercise to do?

Oh... and the mirror?

Pick it up...look at the reflection.... the awesome runner, ( like the ones I am mentioning), that you see there? It is YOU...! Whoa!!!

NOW...

Doesn't it just... puts all our own issues right into perspective! The posts here over the years since 2015 have not only kept me running happily, but got me through a lot of other issues too!

nothing better than Reading some real Experiences. tend to learn more and it's a joy following others on their journey and sharing their Accomplishments. the advice from the Dedicated team here and other runners has been invaluable but sometimes it's a simple post from another on the programme that motivates enough to drag myself out the door.

Didn’t get the message… was confused by “Rest-Day” 🤣. Not that I’m advocating streak running (day 124 BTW) but they really need to rename it “Non-running” day.

I do love the workout though… I’m going with a nice glass or red… only it’s Vimto for once!

Thank you Oldfloss for the post I read so much on this forum questions and answers and I have learned so many new words. I do ask and get replies but sometimes I feel such a fool asking all the time that I actually Google the meaning like - running splits, Cadence, Foot strike, Whats a buff, Static/ Dynamic stretches, MY list goes on and on. Its funny I now use some of these words on friends and family but just get a blank look back. It’s great to explain what they mean.

We really all deserve to take a pat in the back for taking that one step forward and for some of us going out of our comfort zone.

So much thanks, appreciation and gratitude goes out to every member on this forum newbies, graduates, Administrators and Moderators. I’m am so proud I started my fitness journey and how far I have come to love running learning all the new terminology and the friendships I have made along the way. Thank you

Wow! I think that your, " ...We all deserve a pat on the back... " Is just perfect!We certainly do!

There is so, so much to learn... it is not just about one foot in front of the other. It was years before I understood what negative splits were! But there is always someone to ask, someone who knows where to look and no one ever judges anyone for their asking!

We do call this our forum family... it is just a very large one... but that means we have a whole lot of knowledge and friendship here... !

Huge well done to you... you are doing wonderfully!

Found it! I remembered that Realfoodieclub put together a 'fun' glossary of running terms used on the forum.😊 It was right at the bottom of the pinned posts...there may be some new additions needed.

I love reading your posts. And everyone else’s. It’s great to have this space to share our ups and downs, spur each other on and ask questions and get answers and tips and tricks. I never feel silly asking anything - chances are other people are wondering the same thing. I love the community feel to this programme that I’ve taken on alone. It’s great to know other people are experiencing the same challenges and we’re not alone - we can all come here and find support, advice, inspiration and motivation.

Great reply and I hope folk read it... what you say sums everything up and is exactly how I felt and still feel.I started this on my own too. But as you say, we aren't...and some one has always got an answer, an idea or, just this ability to empathise with us!

So absolutely true! I see our fabulous forums as continually developing new insights - collectively and together - around running, walking and fitness.

It’s so much more than one trainer, or one book, or one running group. It’s a community of thousands of books and trainers and groups all sharing learning and experiences about our various fitness journeys.

And as our own journeys can be so individual, so personal to one’s own contexts, having this forum of thousands that are working through similar but different challenges, allows one to navigate one’s own fitness journey so much better. (And of course it also helps with personally committing to that fitness journey.)

My time tends to be after a workout/run. Once I’ve had a stretch and shower, I sit in my late mother-in-law’s leather chair with my paper diary and phone, noting my reflections on how it went, what’s up for tomorrow and writing a run-report to be posted on HU. This keeps me reading and reflecting on my own adventurous journey!

Immensely valuable! I am ever so thankful that I found this forum when I did!

All that you say is so right! I always say, the running and forums are not. my life, but they are a really valuable part of it.Like you I log and write about my runs... have done since 2015!I love the image of you sitting and sorting things ! Love the analogy of how we are enabled to , "... navigate our own journey ''. That says it all .

The wealth of information and folk's experiences really is amazing. I sometimes read things which impact so greatly on me that it takes a while to absorb it all.

Happy chance when you found the forums.... like so, so many of us!

Just also realised something: this forum is the future of the book in some ways. It is us writing our own encyclopaedia of knowledge and experiences, a collective writing and reflecting process, ever-changing, ever-growing …. it’s the future of co-authoring lived experiences and expertise! 😃👍🏽😍✍🏽✏️📝

Aw, shucks! I don't see the hidden message either. ☹️I am keeping up with the program, on Week 6 for the third year running after winter "break." Running is such a great break from my troubles here. Our black lab passed away last week. He was cremated and we (all) buried him this morning. Now Hubby keeps going to all the doors to see if our dog is outside, in the basement, or in the garage. This keeps me running to ensure the doors are shut again, Hubby's back inside, etc.... Whoa--it's late.... Time to rest....

Oh gosh! So sorry about your dog. Your husband is going to find this very hard to absorb, Just take your time. You have plenty of stamina work going on... just hold fast and get the next run in when you are able to. x

What a great post!! I love reading the posts and do try and reply, comment etc whenever i can. The beauty of this forum is there is so much wisdom, support, motivation and inspiration and I know that even if my question has been asked a million times, people still take the time to answer. I feel like a have lots of like minded friends, even though I don't actually know anyone on here . I love hearing all the stories, things been have been doing or not been doing and I try at times to do my bit at supporting and motivating others.This is a great forum and Im so glad I found it. I do have some super ones... considering that I used to run in black ones and a grey top!The words of your post, ( 5 days ago), were very much in my head when I wrote this post... they resonated with me and indeed have stayed in my head. The HM /M gang - well WOW & exploring a mysterious world of starting mats, Tailwind and how not to freeze pre- race.

The repeaters - like me! I have companions!

- and I LOVE that I run by myself but never ever alone. (Just think how many of us avoid being strangled by family/ friends/ colleagues because we have our VRBs to share our stories & enthusiasm with! 😂😂)

OF I love the Catch up Corner - looking forward to the new cushions (maybe in a sunny corner of the garden?) in a month! 😄

Yes..the forums are totally amazing.

I often think we could impact world issues, with the range of expertise and support we have here. We're already saving the Government thousands on the NHS..!

I never thought of the safety of the forum with reference to bored family or friends. I know I was always talking about it when I began. Thankfully...Mr OF is supportive ..my main fan!

The repeaters are such a great group, and it us do good that new runners are able to see, that illness, injury, life issues don't have mean the end of running.

Excellent, - please may we have an arbour with climbing roses, clematis & lavender? A few hammocks for runners who are too exhausted for cushions maybe? 😆Or more apt …hammocks for you & Mr OF after you have worked so hard on your garden project.😊😴

Good luck, garden projects are hard work, but so satisfying.

Ha!. I'm thinking of a watch upgrade (birthday tomorrow!) Yesterday I did a 40 minute NRC mindfulness run, first time using that app not sure what that was all about but trying new ways to get out there. I am managing 3 runs a week though. Strava seems to be offering a lot if you pay for it, I don't, I'm mean!
