This is my first post for a while , I graduated last year with the help of this group and recently my 10 yr old son Jack completed his c25k , now I’m trying to get my 12yr old daughter Tegan to do the same , she is on week 3 and could really do with some encouragement and words of advice from you lovely people , all support is appreciated and I’m sure will spur her on .

Many thanks in advance

Tell her to take all the runs slowly, she can repeat any runs or week's if she wishes, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, congratulations to your 12 years old son Jack on graduating from C25K, perhaps he can also give advice to his sister Tegan on completing the course, I noticed today that a 7 year old girl completed a 5K parkrun in just under 40 minute's. today she celebrated her 7th birthday.

Hmm, if my younger brother had advised me on anything when I was 12 I'd have not reacted well at all!

Hello Tegan! Your Dad Fatheadcymru73 (did you know that's the name he uses on the C25K forum?) says you're currently on week 3 of C25K.

That's great, there is no way I'd have taken on something like that at your age. I loved being active, but thought I was useless at sports, so assumed I couldn't run. I was wrong.

I don't know you, so have no idea whether you like to be the best at things, or not. It doesn't matter. C25K is about discovering how to run, and doing it for you, not anybody else. You don't have to go fast - actually it's better if you don't - and you don't have to enjoy every single moment. It's worth sticking with it though, because being able to get outside, and explore, and realising that you can do things that at first seemed impossible, is pretty amazing.

I went running in the snow today and it was great. I was much slower than usual, my feet got soaked, and I probably looked like a crazy old woman, but I don't care. I got some exercise and, more importantly, had fun. So the best advice I can give you is enjoy yourself.

You can do this - happy running!

Hi Tegan, well done getting started. How lovely to run with your Dad and brother, why should the lads have all the fun?The only downside of running with guys is that they will be faster than you. Don't let that bother you, it's just biology, and running fastest doesn't mean running best.

Have the confidence to tell them to slow down to your pace instead of them expecting you to keep up. It's scientifically proven that it's good for them to run slower. Tell them it will increase their aerobic fitness and you're doing them a favour. This is actually true.

Find your own pace, whether it's slow, quick or somewhere in between it's yours. Smile as you run 😀 it makes it easier.

Go, Tegan, go!!

Hello Tegan, I'm also a Tegan! I can confidently say that 100% of the Tegans I know fell in love with running because of C25k! You have to do it for you and not compete with anybody else's time. I'm a slow runner and it took me far longer than 9 weeks to complete c25k, but slowing down makes it a lot more fun. I like finding new places to go running - think about pretty places you would like to go running when you complete, whether it's a forest, a park or near the sea and maybe have a family trip there?

It's a shame that this website won't let under 18's have their own account. But perhaps your dad can show you some of the posts on here - whatever you're struggling with plenty of others have too, and there's usually lots of good advice. Good luck and have fun!
